Myself and my sister both get it. Both been to see different GP’s and neither have seen it before.
It’s a relief to hear so many others have it and not just us. I am in my 50’s but get it perhaps once s year affecting 3 or 4 fingers within a couple of weeks and then nothing. Seems to be when closing a drawer or using a hoover. Am going for blood tests next week but my sister had them and all came back fine.

Did you ever figure out what was happening? I have had the same exact thing happen to me (49 year old, healthy, active woman). It happened on the side of my big toe a couple of weeks ago - no apparent reason, and then again last night under my second toe on the other foot.

I’m pretty sure you’re right, it seems to fit with Achenbach syndrome to me, well what most of us are describing anyway. Starts with intense pain, minimal or no trauma to the area, and next thing there’s a little round bruise appearing. It only happens on my hands and feet, so I think everything about it is consistent with Achenbach, from my research over the years.

I had paronychia once, I was covering it up and using antiseptic on it, probably the worst thing to do. Then I showed it to a friend and they suggested I put a needle into it, all this pus came out, and it was absolutely fine after that. But I think only one person on this board has that, and the rest of us have Achenbach’s Syndrome, or possibly Ehlers Danlos but I think you’d know if you had that. Stretchy skin, hyper mobile joints.
I think you’re a little confused about bacteria. Don’t worry though, I studied bacteria for over five years, and worked with them for 20, so I can explain. Staphylococcus aureus is present normally (and usually harmlessly on your skin. It can enter a break in the skin and cause infection if the conditions are right. Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus is a very small subset of S.aureus. It is still quite treatable with antibiotics such as Vancomycin, Gentamicin, Fusidic Acid, etc. Sometimes even Penicillin. There are far worse bacteria out there to be infected with, multi resistant bacteria are on the rise, and encapsulated bacteria are pretty hard to get rid of. Once a person with CF gets Pseudomonas in their lungs they’re stuck with it basically. Also so-called “flesh eating bacteria” is actually a particularly virulent strain (rare) of Streptococcus pyogenes, also known as Group A Streptococcus, not S.aureus at all.

I too have these problems but my blood pressure is higher than it should be. My index finger has darkened today and it is almost completely the whole of the finger rather than a small darkening.

Tonight at work the same thing happened to me my right pinky finger swelled up for no reason I though I was bit by a spider or something, bit there was no puncture. It was the joint between my palm and pinky. I got freaked out because it happened so suddenly.

This has happened to me for about 12 years. Ice it before the capillary (or vessel) bursts! After stool testing (***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of web addresses is not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use) for an IBS issue, gluten was off the charts. Stopped eating gluten (beer was a huge culprit) and this stopped by about 95%. Now a finger will be sore to the touch, then disappear after a day. Don't know if it's another food allergy. May do another test.

This just started happening to me. Started on right hand, 3rd finger. Happened about 4-5 times over the past few months. It goes away in about a day. Today, it happened on the left hand, index finger. Have you found an explanation or resolution? Thanks

I just experienced the exact same thing!! I was reaching for the door, felt a stinging like something stung me, only there wasn’t anything around. Immediately my finger tip began swelling and turned black and blue. I have a little bit of numbness, too. I was freaking out a little but after seeing all of these posts, I’m a little more calm.
