Ever since hitting puberty, I have had a very irregular period cycle. I used to have very heavy and constant bleeding (up to 3 weeks straight) so I was put on birth control at age 14 to help control my period.

I am 19 now and am taking a birth control that causes me to have my period only once every 3 months to help my anemia. I still have occasional breakthrough periods of light spotting or bleeding after sex or in times of heavy stress.

This time around I have been having very intense cramping but very little bleeding, but when I do bleed it comes in very short bursts then stops. The blood has been weird consistencies as well. At first it was bright red, but very watery. Then it was like a dark brown color and now just this morning it is very bright red and sort of slimy or thick (like a blood clot?). The bleeding is never very heavy or consistent though. On top of the cramping I have been getting migraines, soreness and now slight nausea.

I cant tell if I am pregnant or have been missing periods because of my birthcontrol. The thing that is mostly concerning me is the consistency of the blood, otherwise I would have just written it off as my period.

Am I overreacting or is there something going on?
