I am having the same unpleasant smell with my IUD that I don't like of my body I've bought Summer's Eve wash and wipes, I take a shower in the morning I apply to some summer Eve wash I'll leave it for a few seconds then wash completely when I get to work by noon the smell is back then I use the wipes....

wow I'm so glad I looked this up. I knew I wasn't going crazy. last week I kept noticing an odor I've never smelled before and I couldn't feel my strings anymore and I'm not really having a cycle I had Bv while pregnant so I kow I didn't have any symptoms of it so I'm think where the heck is think his smell coming from. I'm thinking the strings wrap around my cervix maybe thats what cause the smell. oh great. but I'm glad I saw this I didn't want to do anything that could throw off my PH and cause even more problems. this his Def calling my doctor.

I'm so sorry you had such a mortifying experience. I recently had the Mirena uid (good for 3 years) inserted. Basically I smelled a weird and pretty gross odor the entire first month, and the more I bleed the more noticeable the odor. Luckily, it didn't last nearly as long or heavy as I've heard it could be. I thought (and hoped) it was just my body reacting/ADJUSTING to the foreign object in my body.... The odor went away after the fist month. But every month since then, from the time I start my (weird, much light, but lingering) period, to the end PLUS 5 days or so after that, it smells!!! So I was hoping the less I had my period, the less I'd have the odor. But after reading these posts, I'm not too sure. Ugh!! Thought I was finally on the right track!! I'm gonna keep reading and researching to see if there's anyway to stop this smell from returning!!! Ugh!! Good luck to you as well!!

Omg I am so relieved to see that Im not the only one. I started noticing the iron smell a month after I got the IUD. I only smell before and after my period. It's just so embarrassing when I get intimate with my husband because I know I smell like a penny. Anyways I'm so relieved to see that I'm not alone. I want to take the IUD out but I'm so fertile. Literally if he stares at me in a seductive way I will get pregnant lol. Do any of you ladies have suggestions on different birth controls except the pill.

As a woman I think you should just tell her that she has a strong iron smell. Don't say fishy or stinky because than that will hurt her feelings. After you tell her that show her this Forum that way she won't feel so embarrassed. Pointer: Make sure you have chocolate covered stawberries and flowers to show her that you still love her even though she stinks

Just a few days ago I went to the doctor to get my IUD removed but she couldn't find it. Now I have another appointment, I'm supposed to be getting an ultrasound so they can find it.

I had a copper IUD for (way) longer than recommended, never had a problem. I've had this new copper IUD for a little over a year and all of a sudden I'm experiencing this unbelievable and horribly unsettling odor. Thank you ladies for sharing!!! As terrible as this is I can see I'm not the only one and that is very comforting! I'm thinking it has something to do with hormones (copper IUD's do not have hormones) but getting older definitely changes our hormones so... I think that might have something to do with it. Ugh... Having a penis sounds SOOOO much easier!! I'd take the chances of getting kicked in the balls a couple of times to a monthly nightmare and a smelly vag!

Im seriously glad I researched this and found this blog. Ive had my 2nd Mirena put in for a total of 8 years so far and never had an issue until this past year with the whole "odor" thing. I thought it may have been an STD but that wasn't the case. I was talking to my sister about birth control and she started to tell me how her bc started to give her vaginal foul odor. Thats when a light dinged over my head and I told her that I recently had been having the same issue with some occasional spotting. What I've also noticed is after ever time I have sex I spot or bleed. Ive decided after so long of having this thing in its time to get it out and give my body a break.

I have the copper coil (for nearly a year) and over last 3 months developed foul smell, I have been treating myself for BV and even had swabs taken - no BV!! The nurse even said my strings changed colour -It's coming out I just think some people's bodies just natural reject foreign objects!
