I've never experienced ojectsw appearing smaller, but I definitely get that fast feeling. I was trying to describe this to my family and they had no idea what I was talking about. Its a great comfort to know that other people now what im feeling. Fast, racing thoughts, everything feels like its set on fast forward. its just weird. Im still looking into it to find out what it is. I hope someone finds out something soon.

I have this feeling fairly regularly, and thought I'd look it up to try and find out what it is. Does it get worse, or at least seem that way, with certain continous noises or bleeps for anyone?

I get this feeling too! I've had it as long as I can remember! I have told a number people about it and they all have no idea what I'm talking about. I've told a couple doctors and they didn't seem to understand.
I get the "fast feeling" and also when I touch thing like a pen or even my finger they feel really skinny. Like my index finger will feel as then as a pencil. I usually get it when I relaxing at night to fall asleep or just laying down to relax and it just comes out of nowhere.I'm so relieved to know that others feel this way too.
I wish I knew what it was so I could help ya'll out. But, I don't. If anyone finds out please post it!

Wow. There are quite a few of us.

I am now seventeen and don't have these episodes anymore but I certainly experienced a large amount of them in my prepubescent days. Back in the day, these were terrifying for me. I didn't know if what I felt was normal or not, so I didn't really open my mouth about it. Just tonight, for some strange reason, I started thinking about them again though. And I seriously almost miss them. Or knowing what it feels like. I sort of wish there was some way for me to induce them now :P

Anyway, I actually have a friend who once told me she had experienced these as a child as well, but for some reason we only talked about it very briefly. She's sleeping right now (I should be too) but tomorrow I'll have a chance to ask her about it again. I'll be sure to report back here if I learn anything interesting.

In the meantime, take a look at this poorly written but still somewhat worthwhile wiki entry. It seems to match quite closely with what we all have been describing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racing_thoughts

I am 36 and do not get this feeling now. When i was around the age 7 - 10 i would also get the speeding up feeling within my head.
One minute i would me talking normal then next i would hear very fast talking. This would also involve fast movement but only within my head.
What i don't understand is at that age you don't work and life is simple, you shouldn't be stressed or taking any drugs or alcohol so what can be making your mind or brain do these things.

Worst thing is my daughter who is also seven is now is getting the same symptoms. When they come they last about 10 -15 minutes and coming back between 2 -3 times week, then disappear for a couple months or more.

I wonder if watching the TV to much can affect the brain or your mind?

Wow I feel like I'm in a select group now. I joke with my wife saying "I don't know what this is... maybe it's my mutant ability like in X-men". Like many of you I've been experiencing this since I was about 7 or 8 and thought I was the only one (I'm 31 now). This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone having the same experience. I've read about this in a few forums and some people suggest that it's a panic attack but I strongly disagree. I never feel 'panic' during this, more curiosity to what it is. When I was younger I would notice the room would feel smaller. I distinctly remember how far away one of the corners in my room seemed to get. I don't get that 'smaller' feeling anymore but I still get the 'fast feeling'. It feels like I'm having some sort of natural drug trip but without any euphoric sensations. I only get these when I'm laying in bed about to fall asleep, I've never had one in the middle of the day. I can usually tell when one is about to happen because my tongue feels strange, almost like it's getting bigger or more heavy in my mouth. About a minute or two after noticing my tongue feeling strange it feels normal again but then the 'fast feeling' kicks into hyper-drive. Every movement I make feels incredibly fast and every noise seems exaggerated. It kind of feels like Neo at the end of the first Matrix when he is easily stopping Smith's attacks because he is moving so quickly. What's strange is that while I'm feeling all this I also know that I'm really moving normally... the whole experience is bizarre. I've never had one of these experiences last more than about 30 minutes. I believe that it would/could last much longer if I never attempted to end it. I'm able to slow things back down by getting out of bed and either talking to somebody or watching tv. It usually takes a while to turn it off but I've never felt trapped more than 10 minutes or so after getting out of bed. My theory of what this 'fast feeling' might be is experiencing unconscious alertness while conscious. I've heard that your brain is pretty alert while you're asleep and maybe sounds and movements would seem much more extreme to us if our brains where switched into a more alert state. That's just my theory... what do you guys think? Also. I just purchased the domain ***link removed***. I'm a web developer and I think I'm going to make a website where people with our interesting and rare condition can meet and share stories.

my son who is 12 has been complaining about this for the past few years. I really don't understand it but we have some other health issues with him and I don't know what to think. He has asthma and takes and inhaler and Advair (side effects?). He also is hypoglycemic and I am thinking it's related to that.
However after hearing the news lately I am wondering about the Kawasaki's he had as a child at the age of 4. He did have swelling around his brain and heart at that time. Could that have affected his brain?
Anyway I was welcomed to hear that other people have this but still would love some answers?

Hey everyone, I'm 22 yrs old and just found out my little brother (12 yrs old) has been getting the same feelings for a couple of years now and it jogged my memory of when i also use to get the "fast" feelings (somewhere around 8 yrs old, it was a long time ago), consequently directing me to these forums.

It is exactly like how everyone else has described it, you have the sensation of your thoughts, your movements and time in general moving fast/with urgency but you still know that everything is moving normally. It wasn't too impairing as it would only last for short periods of time (1-5mins), and i even remember kind of enjoying it sometimes. I can't remember the frequency with which it would occur but i haven't experienced the sensation since i was 12, except for once or twice in my teens.

It didn't occur with loud noises or things appearing smaller/further away as some people here have described but i do remember it occurring more often at night as i was about to go to sleep or waking up in the night. I would also get the sensation of my fingers/limbs/tongue feeling thick/thin/light/heavy (as described in this forum https://www.steadyhealth.com/confusing_feelings_on_fingers___quot_thick_quot__and__quot_thin_quot__at_the_same_time__heart_beatin_t149789.html)
at the same time although this only happened occasionally.

I hope this helps a potential explanation/diagnosis and would be curious as to finding out what causes this.

I get the same exact feeling!!! And I'm really glad not to be the only one! Ever since I can remember I had these "episodes". Although most frequently when I was a child!

I've been doing some online research, and all I can find is an association to the "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome". Which is primarily the feeling of being very big, or very small, and seeing objects accordingly. And it seems that our "fast froward feeling" is just a simple symptom accompanying the Alice in Wonderland Syndrome.

The thing is that I've never gotten that "big-small" feeling. Just the "fast forward feeling"...So I'm not quite sure if the AiWS is completely adequate.

I'm really curious!

thanks!

Like most of the people that have posted on here I would experience this sensation more frequently when I was younger (31 now). The last time I remember it happening was 3-4 years ago. I was doing laundry at the time. I think it's interesting I remember that fact. I don't remember it happening more often at night or during the day.

I do not have the feeling that items look small or big. Like everyone else, it feels like everything around me is moving really fast (speech, thoughts, motions) but I know it's not.

I don't think it's anything to be majorly concerned about. However I am curious if there is a medical or psychological explanation.

I get this 'fast feeling' too. I never realised other people got it until I suddenly decided to look it up on the internet. It's interesting that someone mentioned their son had hypoglycemia, kawasaki's disease and asthma, which are all conditions I also have experienced. Perhaps there is a connection? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, interesting though.

I used to get it more often when I was younger, too. I had it during an important math test once, not very helpful for rational thinking. It also feels like I get extra heightened sensing of my environment, my body and even of the activity in my head. Because you perceive so much it feels like time has slowed down because you feel you could not possibly sense so much at once, but it also feels like time has sped up because so much is happening. I have never felt stressed when it begins and I've never had it when I'm about to fall asleep or awaken either. It mostly happens in the middle of the day, when everything is quiet and still. But you know while it is happening that things are in reality normal, and that it is just your mind tricking you. I also get a sort of 'rushing' noise in my head.

I had this same type of thing happen to me 3 times between the ages of 10 to 16. It only happened to me when I would wake up and would last about 2 minutes. And I'm not hypoglycemic nor do I have any disease's. To me it was as if my brain was working at about 1/3 speed, while everything else was going 3 times faster, even my own movements seemed to be moving 3 times faster than they should. It seemed like anything moving was defying physics. Just like a VCR tape looks like being fast forwarded. No one else in my family has ever experienced this either.

I don´t have the feelings myself, but my girlfriend has, and i was very wondered of how it is possible... i´ve made a list of symptoms, so it's easier to see, maybe someone has any good ideas of how it's happening...

Things appear faster.
Body parts feel bigger or smaller, especially hands.
room seems bigger or smaller.
senses are much stronger.
happens mostly when it's quiet.

it would be handy if you guys would post if you have those symptoms too, and maybe if you have something else. i think it's some kind of panic reaction. maybe because life is so full of sounds and stress (not sure how to call it, i'm dutch not extremely good at english), and your mind just 'freaks out' or something because it's so quiet. since much people who have it also have relatives who have it, it might be something in your genes. i'm searching what hormone or something could be causing something like this...
