wow...how amazing to find this forum and know that i'm not the only one who has these symptoms! I've had them since i was little...but now i'm 22 and still occasionally experience them (i just had one like 10 min ago)...mine usually last for 5 minutes-ish. They're like most of you have said...strange and intense rushing feeling in your head...like your life is in fastforward...my thoughts, movements, everything is moving super fast but you know its all in your head. I dont ever really feel smaller than i am and things never seem farther away than they actually are...although i do sometimes feel larger (in my arms) and i experience a strange sensation that makes me feel like im surrounded by brick or stone. haha man that sounds insane. i've never actually written this stuff down. It's not like i'm restricted in my movements by this "stone" feeling...but just like i'm surrounded by it. I don't even really know how to explain it. I guess its just a weird feeling i get in my head that i'm made out of something else. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories...I don't feel as crazy anymore haha

omg i just experienced it now. so i decided to look up what was happening. i had had it before but like 6 months ago but used to think nothing of it. then about 2 months ago, i unfornatly gave in to people offering me weed. the feeling you are all getting is a mild high. i dont know if it is actually drugs causing it, but i assured my self that i would never take drugs again, so i got really worried when i felt this feeling again that maybe i had accidently taken something. i dont think it is though... :-)

I don't think that's what it is for most of us...a lot of our stories (including mine) say that we have been experiencing these strange symptoms since we were small children and on no drugs. I have since been high in my adult life (many many years after first experiencing my first Alice in Wonderland symptoms) and can safely say that the feeling I experience when I have smoked some weed and the feeling I get when I'm experiencing "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome" symptoms are nothing alike.

lol you didn't experience what we all did. The high you get from weed has nothing in common with AIWS.

Wow. Glad to know i'm not crazy. I've gotten this kind of feeling throughout my life, and had one recently. I was trying to explain it to my mom, and she had no idea what I was talking about. My dad must have been in the other room listening, because he came in and helped me describe it and said he experienced it as a child too! I get them way less frequently than I used to (i'm 19 now), and my dad said that they eventually went completely away when he was in his 20's. Its very weird tho. I tend to describe it as, my thoughts change speed and seem to get almost monotone (almost like mocking), you feel like disconnected from your surroundings as far as speed goes, and sometimes my vision changes, like its hard to focus. Kinda uncomfortable, but not an anxious or stressful feeling.

So glad i found this site. I have had this fast feeling since i was very young. It first happended when i was maybe 5 and i felt like someone or something was running down my stairs as i was laying in bed and i was focused on the stair case and the noise was getting very loud and intense. Now im 22 and i still have it happen noises become very loud and i feel ike im going warped speed. I can hold onto the feeling if i just focus on one thing and my hands feel very big. As a side note not sure if its related but i cant go to the movie theathre i get very light headed and feel as if i will pass out. When i drink my eyes get very weired sometimes and i feel very sick as a result. I assume theres some connection to this syndrome and your eyes.

I was actually talking to a friend of mine who is in the psychology field about this very same feeling. His theory is this: there are certain brain waves that occur when you're sleeping, and others when you're sleeping. So, if your body is transferring from a state of activity to rest, or rest to activity, it's possible that these brain waves sometimes get mixed up and cause a disorientation.

Ok, this fast feeling happened to me when I was maybe age 12-16. It happened monthly. It freaked me out. Once it was so bad I told my Mom who thought I was nuts. I went to a Dr who did all these test. MRI, etc. Nothing was found. So, I stopped having them around age 16 or 17. Now I am 39. Maybe twice I felt that same feeling for a second but maybe I just mentally forced it away and it was gone. Then tonight, while laying in bed, it happened again. The first bad one since I was a teenager. It was even more scary. Like it was the first time.
I searched the internet for this site and others. Now this is totally self prescribed, but most sites that mention this, link it to a sort of anxiety or panic attack. Until tonight I would have blown that off. Yesterday (day before the feeling happened) I had a really horrible thing happen at my job concerning my job performance and a review. I felt sick to my stomach most of the day after. Felt better at night. Went to bed, woke up at 5am, drank water, and went back to bed. Could not sleep so i just laid there dwelling on my job and -----WHAM, it hit me full force. My g/f was sleeping and I did not wake her, and I just walked around feeling this horrible fast feeling. After about 20 minutes it slowly went away and I started research. I now fully believe this was a anxiety issue. What kills me is that I felt anxiety as a teen? It is so sad to think that. But yes I did. It all made sense to me. Anxiety, stress, etc. Call it what you want. But as a teen if someone had asked me if i was stressed or full of anxiety I would have said "no way". People don't even know they are stressed half the time. It is so subtle. I do to this day. Thank you for this blog/forum. I hope this helps some people.

Hi my mom has this same problem and she recently went to the doctor over it. She had these strange feelings in her head and she gets dizzy and sometimes she feels like shes in a whole different world. Her doctor told her she has Verligo which is an inner ear problem and it is heridatory (srry cant spell) but my grandmother has it and now my mom and maybe me. But now she has to take this medicine for the dizzyness and vomiting. I hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

I'm 23 and have had episodes of feeling very heavy, sounds become progressively louder and speech and movements become very fast. They usually come on right before sleeping, but I have had one time where I experienced one while at high school in a very quiet room (but now that I think about it, it could have been triggered by the buzzing sounds that fluorescent bulbs make). I actually just had one that sparked my interest in looking it up online and am very happy that I found this forum. They can be quite annoying (and a little frightening) but I've noticed talking to other people stops them very quickly.

I agree that it may be caused by moving from a physical or mental state of high activity to low activity. There are only 3 situations that it occurs to me; when I get home to study from a long day at school, when I begin to read after coming from a hard workout at the gym, or when I try to fall asleep at night.
