Well about 3 years ago i was having the same pain went to the dr got test ultra sound cat scan, they said it was nothing but acid reflex... They gave me prvacid everyday i took that about 6 months and i was fine for 2 years with just the occasional pain and it would go away. Now for the past few days the same thing it has been hurting, i feel very nauseas, i have gotten nauseas a few times in the past few months for no reason, and i have lost about 20 pounds in the past few months. Idk if all of this is directly related.... But it seems everyone has the same thing. For the past few days i have been taking pepto zantac and prevacid it has made it sort of bareable it kinda still just hurts. I dont have insurance, and the pain has only been so bad for about an hour so i don't really see a reasdon to go to the ER. If anyone else has an idea i could sure use one!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm suffering the same thing. I have had a cold the past few days and I'm on the upswing. I woke up at 5am this morning with a pain right in the center below the ribcage. The pain is not constant, it comes and it goes within usually 30 seconds and lasts for 5-10 seconds. I drank water, thinking it was hunger pains. It seemed to help. It came back within 15 minutes, I tried water again, and same thing happened. When I stand up or sit up the pain feels like it's in my mid-back, same area. I have no health insurance, I'm a student, and can't afford to get any tests. My hope is that it will go away as some of you say it comes and goes.

I have no gall bladder and get this occasionally. Its like a spasm in the center below ribs like a dagger. I use BENTYL, which is an antispasmodic and in less than 15 minutes its gone. Ask doc about that.

try Bentyl. It is an antispasmodic. If your gallbladder is out and you still have this, you probably have GERD, but this spasm can be relieved within 15 minutes of pain with Bentyl.

I've been struggling with these pains for years, oftentimes occurring without any warning or any noticeable trend with eating habits, frequency of bowel movements, etc. I am a 19 year old male, roughly 6'1" and 215 lbs (tall and slightly overweight). No kids, little/no stress (unemployed, not in school, no pressure from parents, no girlfriend), no drugs, very little alcohol (less than the norm), plenty of sleep, no allergies, no medical conditions (IBS, diabetes, stress disorders, lactose intolerance, etc.) and little physical activity.

I would often wake up between 4:00am and 8:00am with horrible stomach pains right below my chest, above my "gut" and dead centre. Sometimes they were mild, and would subside shortly after, without issue. But most of the time, they were horribly painful, nearly bringing me to tears while I would struggle to relax for hours.

My doctor suggested that the pain could be caused by acid reflux and prescribed a medication that didn't seem to work, so I'm not sure if it really is acid reflux. I found that green tea before bed helped a bit, but nearly everything else was useless: Pepto-Bismol, Tums, Alka-Seltzer... Nothing. I found that lying in a cool, comfortable room on my side with a cold pillow pressed against my bare stomach also slightly helped.

Luckily, I found a medication (non-prescription) that seems to work everytime: Gas-X capsules. Within approximately 15 minutes, my pain is gone. Magic.

Hope this helps someone who needs it as badly as I did.

I too have had middle upper abdominal pain.  It has been going on for a couple of months.  Had all kinds of tests - thinking it was gallbladder - but all came back normal.  Other symptoms include a low grade fever, nausea after eating, loss of appetite.  I noticed the pain in the abdominal area (right in the middle) comes & goes.  It was bad last night after doing some sit ups.  The GI Dr. has taken a course of action to try OTC prilosec, a low fat diet, reducing consumption of caffein.  But I don't honestly believe that is what's going on here.

Does anyone else have similar symptoms - it's been difficult to find posts that include middle upper abdominal pain.

Thank you -

I've been having this exact problem for about a two months accompanied with fevers, headaches, fatigue, nausea, and so forth. Although, I was negative for cancer my doctor seems to think it is something important and has begun heart testing, and will start testing me for tumors shortly. Since my potassium was elevated he is also checking me for auto immune disorders such as addisons disease. I suggest if your doctor hasn't tried these routes you ask your doctor if anything like that could be a possibility.

For me this started out feeling like a really icky stomach bug a couple of days ago and now I've been having the same symptoms as others for the past day and tonight the pain is almost unbearable at times. It starts out as a huge wave of nausea, and if I do vomit it's very nasty, seems like theres alot of bile. Then it'll change to the clenching/stabbing pain right below and behind the bottom center of ribcage. I have a very high pain tolerance, but this pain makes me gasp it's so bad.
I keep feeling like I really need to burp but it wont let up much and my upper abdomen also seems a bit bloated, so that makes me think "Oh, dont tell me it's just gas" -_- Well if it is its the WORST gas pain I've ever had. I havent taken anything for it yet...Gonna try a pepto tab and some ibuprofen. then maybe I can get a little sleep tonight (It's now 5am o_O)

A little background info: I'm female, 19, 5' 7", fit 140lbs, moderate activity, pretty high stress level (been dealing with alot of financial difficulties &family/friend/love c**p the past 2 years) I am a bit prone to sickness. -_-

I am a young teenager and I am having starp pains below my rib cage in the center. Sometimes when I breathe it seems hard to take a full breath because of the pain. I haven't gotten my period yet and was wondering if that was the reason for the pain? No position helps it's been going on for a few days now. Is this something I should worry about? It is so strong I can sometimes barely walk. To be specific, it is under the en of the center of my ribcage, right where the V is. If i press on it, it just hurts more. Sometimes it feels like hunger but i'm not hungry and my appetite hasn't left yet. It is inbetween my ribcage and my belly button. Has anyone found anything out?

*the V is (it's like an upside down v at the end of your ribcage... You feel it better if you lay down and press against the end of your ribcage*
