I have the same symptoms and the only thing that has ever helped me was basically eating like a vegan. No sugars, wheat, dairy, caffiene or alcohol. I go on a 21 day cleanse every year and while following the vegan diet, I have no symptoms. I gradually add foods back and the end result is always the symptoms listed above.

I can hardly eat red meat, dairy or things like regular store brand peanut butters or sweets - or I bloat and need to belch.

I have been diagnosed over the years with mild acid reflux, a "nervous stomach", H-pylori and IBS

In the end, being an alcohol free vegan is all that helps.

Hi,

Have any of you ever considered that you may be experiencing pancreatitis?  It presents with severe pain below the rib cage that can radiate to the back.  You should seek treatment immediately if you have these symptoms.  Someone mentioned experiencing pain after a night of drinking - alcohol is the main cause of pancreatitis.  Secondly would be gallstones.  Do not wait - this can develop into a chronic condition and lead to permanent damage of the pancreas.  Do not take this lightly - get to urgent care or the ER!

Hey guys, I've been having something similar. I used to get it once every few months but now I've been getting the pain right under my rib cage on the left side, and in the middle. It switches between the two, but it feels like a really bad burning pain. It can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, and I have no clue what it is. Any ideas? Should I see a doctor?

I get these muscle spasm pains in the same place about once a year - mid back - left hand side behind my rib cage -  usually when Ive moved house or reached up high in a cupboard. Its a dull nasty ache and comes and go --  a spiteful muscle spasm that reaches a peak and goes off for a minute then comes back. It is very painful and reminds me of labour pains !! It usually stays with me for 1-2 days and I cant do anything but lay in bed with a cold compress as the pain strikes me down -- its starts mild and then on a 1 to 10 reaches 9 when its mid course which can last up to  4 hours . I dont know what to do with myself when it gets this bad . Then the next day its gone without trace ..  Can anyone throw a light on why this happens ???

I'm really really young ( young teens) and this upper abdominal lower rib pain just started at about 10:00 at night and I can't make it stop. I've taken some medicine and it didn't stop it, I'm not sure what to do. I can not get to sleep and the pain only calms down when I lie in the fetal position or bend over when I walk. It feels kinda like I have something stuck its not blocking anything important but it still hurts.

I can't believe so many of us are going through this pain and many of us undiagnosed! I've had excruciating pain just under the bottom of my ribs for the past 2 years. I don't have reflux and have had my gallbladder removed ten years ago. I've had heaps of tests and a CT scan found an ABDOMINAL TUMOR! It's the size of an egg but I'm still not 100% sure that it's causing the pain as I'm not sure why it comes with such intensity (even morphine only just dulls it) and then goes away randomly a week or so later?! Does anyone know who I could go to (specialist/ surgeon etc) or what tests/scans I could have to get more clarity? I'm a bit scared and don't know what to do next!!

the nauseating burning pain sensation centrally in the arch below the ribcage sounds very much like an ulcer that i have had before and have just started getting again :(

i suffered from it for a long time and when bad it was terribley painfull but pain would come and go nexy day it would/could be gone my friend used to give me ulcer tablets which used to take care of the pain initially cent******* something

anyway eventually whent to the doctor and they said i had the Helicobacter pylori virus this is either an ulcer related virus or its a virus that gives you ulcers anyway i was prescribed a course of a double dose of antibiotics 2 different types and it cured it was a very uncomfortable cure for me the 2 different antibiotics caused me to feel a huge amount of pressure from the pain point right up my chest

considering i had just recovered from a heart attack, i felt this pressure and uncomfortableness caused by the 2 antibiotics fighting the infection was gonna cause another one lol but i survived it

a small tip take smaller meals while on this medication as it will make you feel as if you are gonna burst open

hope this helps

September 5,2013 is the day I went to Urgent Care for this issue. I have had stomach pain under my sternum in the center of my stomach, feeling nausea, pain terrible at times, since my first doctor visit. I have had an Ultra Sound, Hidel Scan, Pee test, Endoscopy and Blood Tests, all normal. Well, almost normal; I have been treated with a double dose of antibiotics and recently another round of stronger antibiotics (Pylera) treatment for H. Pylori. I was told by the Gastroenterologist Office that if this is the problem, the pain should go away about a week after completing the antibiotic regimine. Three days after completion on regimine, I still have pain, I doubt I will get relief. I have another appointment with the Gastroenterologist this Friday (November 15) and want to bring in ideas as to what he should test for because the doctor doesnt seem like he is very aggressive at finding out what is wrong with me. I plan on asking for a test for a Glueton allergy but would like more suggestions. I look forward to feeling normal again. Good luck to you as well in regards to your health. Best wishes! :)

I am on day 3 of my similar ordeal...upper abdominal pain in the center below the rib cage. I've got a feeling of fullness even though I have not eaten. it feels like I got punched in the stomach, knocking the wind out of me or like something is bruised. It is painful to cough or yawn or to even take a deep breath (the pain intensifies if I do anyof the 3). This morning, day 3 of the nagging ache, something new happened. I went to get a glass of water and just left it sitting there on the counter because I began sweating profusely and the room began to spin. I grabbed an ice pack, went straight to bed & turned a fan on me. Even with the ice pack, I had sweat pouring from my face & under arms. I could feel my face must have been bright red, it was so hot. I felt better after holding the ice pack on my head then abdomen. I took my temperature & it was 96.5. I felt so hot, I tried again...96.3. About 10 min. Later it was 96.0. At that point, I was exhausted & fell asleep. Ended up sleeping til after 4pm. I was hungry but felt nauseous after one bite of soup. I opted for ginger ale & went back to bed for 4 hours. Temp is at 97.5 but still not normal for me. I've been searching for an answer online because I lost my job in August & have no insurance. Even though they'll take me at the ER, they will still bill me & I cannot go to collections because I need a good record to get a job (background checks include credit reports, and they do send you to collections even if you tell them up front you have no job, no insurance & no money as this happended to my BF when he dislocated his finger several years ago). Pain has started radiating from the center to both sides, but more on the right & now in my back, slightly off center to the right, and it may be unrelated (possibly due to how I am sleeping on my side) but now there is pain in myright collarbone/shoulder area. For clarification, I am in my mid 40s, 7-year breast cancer survivor, history of uterine fibroids but never had any associated pain. Been about 35 lbs overweight since chemo & medically induced menopause without success from diet or mild exercise. Otherwise fairly healthy except for "eating like a broke person" past few months due to finances, but I do try to eat plenty of fruit & veggies. Hoping to see a light at the end of the tunnel (such as a cheap OTC med) so this goes away. Considering taking Tylenol 3 for the pain but not sure that's wise.

I was having the same symptoms lasting for 5 hours. My friend told me she was having the same trouble and found out she was lactose intolerant. I thought I would try the lactose free diet and it works. I now buy lactose free milk etc. And have been pain free till the other night I ate pizza with extra cheese big mistake huge. You might try a diet for lactose intolerant.

I was also advised to try gluten free diet. A co-worker's sister did and got rid of several ailments, she says. Might be worth a shot considering the pain of this annoying ailment, whatever it may be. Pain level day 5 after 2 days of Prilosec AM 30 min. before meal & a Pepcid in the evening, about 4-5 with spikes to 6-7 when coughing, yawning or taking deep breaths. Woke me up with pain level 8 & profuse sweating overnight, BF got me an ice pack & 1/2 cup 7up. Finally felt good enough to resume sleep after 10 min. of pain & sweating from my brow. Definitely worth trying the lactose-free and/or gluten-free diets to eliminate this torture.
