Alright, well, I had the exact same problem. Stomach pains below the rib cage in the center stomach. They weren't persistent, they were achy and came every so often. I had many blood tests done, and had nearly three x-rays and a cat-scan with the dye contrast. They told me at one point in the two to three months I had this pain that I had a Ileus, but they said it was passing slowly. So they finally took me to a gastroenterologist where he said they'd to a Endoscopy (Look at my stomach from a cord down the throat) to see if there were any ulcers and take some samples to check for bacteria. When all said and done, they told me I had the worst inflammation for a teenager they've seen in a long time.

All in all, they diagnosed me with Gastritis. They told me I was on the brink of a ulcer. I think I'm cured at this time, but if anyone wants to know what they did for me. They placed me on a medication of Surcralfate and Nexium. Surcralfate is used to coat the lining from the acid, it also helps heal the lining from the inflammation. The Nexium is a acid reducer that has to be done from prescription, but if you're low on funds or the medicine is to much. I can suggest Prilosec instead, they're about the same. So, I can suggest if anyone hasn't gone to see a Gastroenterologist yet about this problem and it's been going on for longer than a month. Please go, it'll help you a lot. Infer about Gastritis and see what they can do about it.

Hope this helps,

Well since commenting on here, I am now coming to the conclusion that it could be a muscular problem. In the last 2 weeks, iv only had the pain twice. The first time I was stretching to hang curtains and the 2nd time I stretched to put something in my cupboard. On both of these occasions, I had the pain for over an hour which was so intense that it made me cry and the only thing that would get rid of it was a red hot.. Hot water bottle. It really makes sense that it could be a torn muscle or something is because I got this after carrying my son for 9 months.

This is a sign of ulcers i have them. I have had them for years. you need to go to a gastroenterologist. Takeing pain meds will make it worse. Do not take anything with Advil in it or ibuprofen. eating acidic foods will make this worse or if u drink alcohol it can cause them to hurt more and or bleed.
Try drinking milk, eating pickles, or taking a medicine called Zegarid. Al of the above help me when i'm in pain or nauseous do to my ulcers.

I would get this checked out ASAP; it could be symptoms of Pancreatitis. Especially since you are losing weight.

Ive had the same symptoms and today had A stomach ultrasound & several large gallstones were found. The pain starts off under the ribcage & travels through the abdomin & radiates to the back aswell. I intially thought it was severe indegestion, but antiacids weren't working nor was paracetamol. Im just happy to know what it is so i can start treating it as it has been ongoing dor about a year

Just so you know, I had trouble with pain and not being able to eat. Went to several ER and doctor's visits. They did all 3 types of test at 2 different hospitals and they said "Your gal bladder is fine. It only has a little sludge." The pain would not go away and so I went in to ER told the doctor I wasnt leaving til they got something figured out. A gastroentologist (SP) told me I was crazy. That it wasnt my gal bladder. Well, I was frustrated that I simply TOLD them I wanted my gal bladder removed. I had to sign a special paper since the doctor didnt believe that it was my gal bladder that said I wouldnt hold them accountable. The doctor was REALLY critical about doing it clear up to right before the surgery. He let my family know I was headed back to surgery and told them he would talk to them once it the surgery was over. WELL GUESS WHAT....he came out of surgery and told my family that he was so glad I had made him do it. My gal bladder was so...full of sludge it was at a point it could rupture. That would/could have been DEADLY! SO....just because you have had the tests done and it came back not bad, doesnt mean that it doesnt need to be removed. It was the BEST decision I had ever made about my body. Doctors and tests dont know everything like they think they do!
SO if you have problems then put your foot down and make them listen. It could very well save your life or save yourself ALOT more medical problems!!!
Hope this helps!

hey! I have suffered a continuous pain right in the middle of the upper abdomen. the area stretches from the lower ribs to their end. i think its an ulcer but im not sure. it pains usually after eating. i cant have very big meals or spicy meals. anything acidic such as caffeine, cigarettes etc. doesnt help. sometimes a glass of cold milk gives very temporary relief. there is always bloating of the abdomen which follows...extreme discomfort. its a sharp concentrated pain.
