I have a really severe pain all over my abdomen, from two inches below my navel up to my ribcage. I'm 15 & I haven't experienced this much pain before. I got it this morning at about 3:30am and couldn't sleep after that. I tried a hot shower but it was hopeless. It's hurts to breathe in deep & it was that bad I wanted to cry but literally couldn't because it hurt to much. I eventually fell asleep & woke up with the pain still intact. It hurts so bad to move in the slightest way. I even took a panamax for it, which I never do for any pains because I don't believe they work & I have difficulties swallowing them. Unfortunately it was hopeless & did nothing. I felt nauseous & even the slightest touch to my stomach hurts. Going to town was horrible because the slightest bumps in the road or corners & roundabouts made the pain worse. I felt like throwing up in the shopping centre & had to rush to the bathroom, however running makes it hurt even more. I've lost my appetite & I'm really hoping I don't have the pain again tomorrow, as I have to work. I did read about a bloke who went to the ER about something the same & the doctors believed it was caused by high blood pressure & stress. I think this might be related to my pain as lately I've been really angry & the night before I went off at my mum a lot & was really frustrated. Next thing at 3:30am when I was about to go to sleep, BAM the pain hit me. It won't go away & is really bugging me. It seems to have gotten worse now that's it's night/morning again.
Thanks.

Try removing oily or greasy food from your diet.  No fries, no hamburgers, no bacon.  Also no energy drinks.

The centralized pain directly under the ribcage is similar to the feeling I got when returning to the US with hepatitis (due to eating at a bad overseas restaurant). This affects the liver. The doctor recommended removing all grease from the diet.  There was a huge difference between eating fries (increased pain) to eating correctly.

Years later, I've found that the pain returns with energy drinks. I don't know if it's the Taurine, or some other booster they put in the drink, but I always plan on the sharp pain under the ribcage soon after the energy drink.

Sorry... eating healthy is lousy, but it may stop the pain.

I am back after a yr and still same pressure under my right rib and right breast. I just saw a doctor this week and she said it was scar tissue from the removal of my gall bladder and schedule me for to ultrasound one my chest and the other my breast. before I take those test I am going to as the radiologist if scar tissue will show up if not I am not going to take them again. I read all your reply. I already have been dx with GERD and been taking nexium for 7 years for it.. I have never ate fried, spicy food since 1991. So none of those r my problems.

I found this site when looking for similar symptoms... first days to have... and it is nice to see all of the dialogue between people... the best advice I found from other sites, in case anyone wanted to test is copied from another post. I think I will try avoiding certai things and see if it improves. Not great news, but worth a try:

the pain you are experiencing might be an very early sign (before tests actually show results) that your liver is sensitive to the alcohol. A temporary swelling maybe. I would avoid fatty foods and alcohol and keep a journal to track pain levels. Just to see if there is a remission on pain.

And if everyone is telling you that its a pulled muscle then their affirming your pain is real and isn't in your head.

The good thing is that you are getting the gamit of tests being done and keeping on top of the situation.

I have the same pains. Been to doctors many many times but the problem never seems to get cured. I've found that these things help... Stay away from coffee and alcohol. Eat healthier foods. Stick to Tylenol for pain relievers, ibeprophene and others ruin the lining of your stomach. I was told its a lot of acid build up and bile reflex. Currently taking prilisac.

I've had this problem since I was 16. I'm 22.
I also have an over-acidic stomach with reflux.

I've found that this problem is caused by gas pressure from the acid. Not only that, but I think this causes an internal valve spasm and prolong the problem.

To fix the pain, you need to change the pH of your stomach and get the gas to move/process.

I drink something carbonated to make me burp, which helps ease the pain a little, then force down some food, like cereal&milk or a breakfast shake.. which coats and forces everything to get moving.

This might get removed, but another thing that has helped a lot is the the anti-spasmodic properties of cannabis. After the burp, if I use a tiny amount, the pain goes away and i can eat comfortably. But only if I managed to burp first.

A previous post I read, suggested taking an anti-spasmodic and that relieved said users pain, but it took 15 minutes.

since giving birth to my son in december 2011, i have had this excrutiating pain under my ribs in the centre (where the v is). it is so bad that it doubles me over and i vomit constantly, not to mention it makes me bleed vaginally. it's not a period as out of a whole month, i get a 2 day break where i don't bleed at all. i have lost 1.5 stone in weight. the pain lasts for 2 days constantly, i have to have a boiling hot water bottle on me where the pain is, sometimes it eases the pain and sometimes it doesn't work at all. i was given tramadol (strong pain killer) to ease my pain, i was only allowed 8 a day, i took the limit, pain didn't go but instead it knocked me out. they are so strong, even after 4 i felt drunk. the hospital have done scans, x-rays, blood work, blood pressure and a camera up my vagina and they found nothing. last week they took my appendix out (they said they were abnormally long and had hard faecies stuck to it) and i also had a camera through the belly button. they found nothing. 3 days passed with no pain, i actually thought they cured me but no. the pain came back, excrutiating as always but this was different. it only lasted 20 minutes after having a hot water bottle on my pain. i thought this was down to my body trying to recover from the op as it has never lasted 20 minutes, the shortest time i had was 24 hours! few days passed and i got it again lasting 20minutes. and now today, right now actually, i have the pain again but this time it lasted 15 minutes. i am still bleeding vaginally, it's been 6 months. i saw my doctor yesterday because i have become very dizzy and faint. i can't leave the house incase i collapse. my doctor tells me this is because of my blood loss. he has given me a tablet to take 3 times a day to stop the bleeding. - am now waiting for a letter from the hospital for my 6 week check up after having the op. i will have to tell them that i still get the pain. they really have no idea what is causing it and they say im a mystery. this needs to be sorted out asap as i have a 6 month old baby and i cannot look after him when i get the pain, i can't even move, i can't stand up straight, i cry with pain, i vomit constantly, i have hardly got an appetite. this is ruining my life. my partner is really finding it hard and it's putting a major strain on our relationship. i have kept food diaries and everytime i get the pain, it's never the same thing i've eaten. i have even kept a mood/stress diary and it's got nothing to do with that either. i don't really exercise unless you count pushing my son around in his pushchair, i don't drink alcohol, i don't smoke and i don't do drugs. the hospital gave me tablets to reduce the acid in my stomach and that didn't work either. i am 29 years old, 6 ft 2 and i now weigh 12 stone exactly. i hope someone can figure this out soon as this is a living nightmare!

I have the same exact pain as everyone else. I'm 27 male in good shape and today the pain was unbearable, currently I have a heating pad covering from the V to my pubic area, and as of right now the pain is gone. From being hunched over in pain to nothing in the time it took the pad to heat up, obviously there is something else going on but try heating pad to relieve pain works wonders!

Just wanted everyone to know that I have had the same thing for about 10 months now.  It was kind of releaving to know others are having the same issues.  I'm 27, good shape, had strange pains in my chest and back.  turned out to be a stomach virus.  But now I'm having wierd cramping in that area just below the rib cage (I'm guessing my stomach).  It aches and I just want it to go away.  Stress definitely caused it and drinking the night before only amplifies the ache and cramping.  Looking for a solution but I think it might be stomach spasms and IBS.

So I decided to do a little research and a lot of these complaints seem to be the same as my post earlier.  Upper abominal pain just below the ribs - sometimes associated with back pain, after going to the doctor TWICE and hearing that everything is fine and my xrays and blood tests come back fine I needed a solution.

Sounds like Stess induced stomach cramps/spasms.  What you might be looking for is an antispasmodic!  They are only prescribed by doctors, so you will have to visit your doctor but that seems to be solution for those who have had a lot of stress in their lives along with painful stomach cramps.  This site really gives a lot of good information:

I'm only posting this because there seems to be a lot of people asking for help and I know how desperate you can feel when all the tests come back good and they can't find whats wrong with you.

Hope this helps!!! :)
