I too have had heavy bleeding. After years of birth control pills, hormones etc, I was all for a hysterectomy. My dr said I was too young (40 years old). After 6 years of all this, there was something "new" to the market that was less invasive--uterine cryoablation. I underwent the procedure, and as soon as I woke up I was in excruciating pain. I went home, was STILL in pain. The next day, I started w/a fever. That night I had terrible stomach pain and couldn't sleep all night (telling the dr everything along the way). The next morning, I had a bowl movement & thought I'd pass out from the pain. I called the Dr, I went in and he took blood. By 3pm w/no results, I finally went to the emergency room. Not only did I have peritinitis, but I also had a hole in my intestines & bowels. I spent a week in the hospital. Anyone considering this surgery, DON'T HAVE IT! It was the worst decision I have ever made.

I have always had painful periods as well and I just turned 40. I had the ablation surgery in 2009 which did not stop my periods, but for 1 1/2 years stopped the cramps. Each period since then my cramps are slowly getting worse. So bad than over the counter medications do not help. Needless to say, the ablation surgery did not work for me. I've heard of other cases where it did work for other women. The OB/GYN told me the older you get, the worse your periods will get. I am now thinking of a partial hysterectomy. The pain is so bad each month, I don't know what else to do.

The ablation surgery costs about $7,000 which is a lot of money if it does not work.

I also had the cryoablation about 10 years ago and after having it I suffered 2nd degree burns from it leaking out and had to be treated for the burns for almost over 2 months with creams. And not to mention, the ablation did not take. I refuse to go back to this stupid doctor who I must say has made other mistakes I don't want to bring up, but go to my general practioner and get a referral to a new ob/gyn and give it another try. Also, I suffer from Bipolar 1 and when I have my period I am so depressed and out of it I can't bear it anymore. I am 44 years old and I do not want a hysterectomy because I saw what my mother went through when she had one. This is my last result. Any body in the same position? It would sure be great to get some feedback?

I'm just going to put my experience on here.  I can tell you I tried everything birth control but had horrible migraines.  I could not drive 5 minutes to drop my kids at preschool without the first stop being to change my tampon...gross I know....I was going thru a box of super plus tampons in a day.... My ob suggested novasure.... Best decision ever!!  I haven't had a period since....I know some have some spotting.  I had cramps for a day and was back to normal.  I had symptoms of a period for about 6-8 months then nothing...best decision ever...guess I was about 37 when I had it done.... Never had any other problems previous as far as Pap smears ECt ... My ob was awesome... She was first a nurse then a doc...best doctor I ever went to....hands down...

Good luck to all of you!!

I just found out my uterus is attached to my abdominal wall. My obgyn said that only a hysterectomy or maybe the pull will lessen the horrible bleeding, cramps, and menstrual ibs. After 3 months on the pull, I am worse. Did you have the hysterectomy? How are you?

I had a hysterectomy 5 weeks ago (June 20) and it was the best thing for me. I am not suffering from depression because I have wanted this for so long. I had painful and very heavy periods due to fibroids. I always had accidents, which were embarrassing. Each woman has her own personal reasons for wanting one or the other, good luck!

I feel like your story is close to mine and I’m trying to decide if just going through with the hysterectomy is better, I also have a polyp so I’m not sure if that changes anything with the ablation
