I have my period right now and am experiencing the dryness and soreness. I guess its the change of hormones, Im also acne prone because of this and get sometimes bad pms. I think this month it is also bad because I am using a new body wash which I think is irritating me down there, my diet has been sucky with fewer fruit or vegies and I'm using tampons and my period was only heavy for two days. I actually think the symptoms would mostly go away of I changed these last three things. I can't believe everyones Drs are being so useless though. Go to a gyno if you're really worried.

I started using Dimetapp cold and flu. My vet recommended it for my dog for itching when he had to have a cast for a broken leg. I felt that if it worked for the dog, it might work for me after trying everything with no success, This did the trick. I use petroleum jelly to keep it lubricated, wipe can after using the restroom and Dimetapp when I wake up and when it is needed through the day.

I am so glad to have found out that others have this problem. After years of using azo yeast and having all the std tests with no clear cause of the itching, I have yet to find relief. I still think it may have something to do with my diet (yeast in beer and bread). My gyno said that my cervical mucous irritates my area during ovulation. She recommended any fragrance/dye free laundry detergent, Dove sensitive unscented soap, and balmex. these help tremendously! (Especially the balmex (zinc oxide diaper rash cream) as a barrier and after i have rubbed and scratched to relieve the itch. I tried the baking soda soak today and will try again. I highly recommend the balmex.

I've been having the same issue for several months now. It seems like vaginal discharge is what irritates my labia the most, I'm always either very dry (with small, paper-cut like tears, I can't stretch labia even a little bit without tearing all over again) or wet as if I were ovulating or aroused. Obviously it's the worst during ovulation, while the problem almost disappears during menstruation. There's itching, constant itching, it slowly drives me crazy. I'm a heavy sleeper but getting wet out of nowhere is so uncomfortable it can easily wake me up, that's quite an achievement.
I'm 20, still a virgin, never been to a gynecologist and would rather not go anytime soon if I'm being honest. Especially since it'd be difficult to go visit one without my mother finding out, and I'm not comfortable discussing vaginal issues with her. I do have hormonal imbalance - hyperprolactinaemia, developed under stress related to my depression and anxiety. I do not have any symptoms, it's just there. I wonder if it could be related to my vaginal issue somehow. I've had hyperprolactinaemia for years, though, and those issues only a few months.
I'm currently out of the US, in a country where it's practically impossible to buy baking soda. Due to being on antidepressants, I'd rather not take any over the counter pills as I can't know if they're not gonna cause problems without discussing this with my doctor, which is something I'd rather not do. What other homemade methods or over the counter ointments etc. could you recommend?

You basically need to get rid of the acidity down there by getting something alkaline to increase it to it's natural pH. This is why it's better during your period because blood is basic (making the area more alkaline than usual). I literally have no idea what to suggest though, other than bicarb of soda for increasing it... soap is an alkaline, though this might damage the area? Perhaps a very mild non fragranced soap wash to the area might help. I have probably had my hormone imbalance for a lot longer than I have had the problem, like you, but I do think that this was the cause of it.
