Your symptoms/pains sound exactly like mine and I'm having a hysterectomy next week. That's exactly how I feel ...miserable from the boobs down always! Just curious about what exactly you had removed? Thanks

My surgery is in two weeks.

After years of bad periods, I began gaining weight but only in my stomach. I'd be great everywhere else, but, depending on the day I'd look visibly pregnant sometimes. Eventually they'd figured out that I not only had multiple, large fibroids that had my uterus measuring at 18 weeks, but that I also has a 12cm cyst on my ovary. For reference, that is the size of a small cantaloupe.

They'll be taking everything except my right ovary. They're attempting to do it laparoscopically but there's a chance they'll have to scrap that plan and I'll end up with the abdominal cut if the cyst proves too big to remove with the preferred method. Frankly, after being told I needed to be tested for two different types of cancer in four weeks (both thankfully negative) re all this, I'm glad it's "only surgery."

I ended up hear after doing a search to see what the side effects were and being terrified to see weight gain. But my doctor said she expects me to lose weight and says she has no doubt both of the above are adding several unearned inches to my waistline. We shall see. But thanks for providing some positivity.

You are experiencing exactly what I just went through. My uterus was at the four months stage with a baseball sized fibroid. The lining was also very thick. I am 50, had not been through menopause yet, had horrid periods, am healthy and active, had never had surgery, and had experienced three healthy vaginal births. My surgery was nine days ago. It was a DaVinci laparoscopic, where a robotic arm does the work as the doctor moves it. They took the uterus out vaginally. My doctor also realigned my bowel and did some "repair work" in my vagina. Before surgery I had no issues with any of this. She said it was still shifted about from giving birth to a ten pounds baby 26 years ago. Just wanted you to know the background. I feel very good! I have four very small incisions on my abdomen. No visible stitches, they look like little stabbed over scraps. I could shower right away! They gave me morphine for the first 24 hours along with Toridol. Pain was minimal. Was in hospital overnight (my surgery was at 8 am) and left the hospital at noon the next day. At home I have been using 800 mg. Ibuprofen only. There is little pain with the incisions. Down below feels a bit like an appeseaotomy, not bad but there are stitches there. I can bend, use the stairs, make a simple meal, and throw a few things in the laundry. I feel so much better than I could have ever dreamed. My only issue is gas pain and balancing how much stool softener and so on. You may not have those issues if they don't mess with your bowel. My stomach is about the same. Hopefully it will go down a bit more as time goes by. The doctor told my husband that the uterus only weighed about two pounds. You may lose a few pounds because of lose of appetite. I am eating because i know i have to but am really not that hungry. You will be amazed how well it goes! I am a teacher and plan to be off work for 4.5 weeks. Best of luck to you!

I had to have an emergency, abdominal (complete) hysterectomy, with the removal of 1 ovary and tube, 4 weeks ago due to heavy bleeding. I was sore, which was to be expected. I get tired quicker than before surgery; however, I do not regret it! On the plus side, I've lost approx. 21 lbs post surgery.

I have read almost all of this forum, and have not see anyone that had (or is having) a hysterectomy due to a uterine prolapse. Any one out there who has experienced, or is experiencing, a prolapsed uterus? I would love to hear their story! In any case, I have a stage 3 uterine prolapse (since 1997 due to a large baby and a vacuum delivery) I have been dealing with my cervix being right at the opening of my vagina since then along with heavy bleeding and fibroids until menopause hit. My last period was in Nov. of 2015 and that was heavenly since I did not hemorrhage for 10 days a month and my severe anemia also went away. However, the lack of hormones has made the prolapse even worse In any case, my surgery is scheduled for next Friday (2-3-17) along with "pelvic reconstruction" since I have also developed a cystocele and a rectocele. Trust me, you want neither of those conditions. Basically it has become very difficult to control bladder and bowels. I was a very active person before things became increasingly worse over the last two years. I could bike 25 miles a day and walk for miles as well - now I can barely walk up stairs or go shopping without having to push my cervix back inside. I am praying that this surgery goes well and I can get my life back. Needless to say since I have not been able to do any sort of real exercise I have gained 40 pounds and that has been very depressing. The surgery will be done laparoscopically/ via the DaVinci robotic method so my recovery should be easier than if done abdominally. I agree that the doom and gloom stories have kept me from doing this, but my quality of life has just tanked and I cannot put it off any longer. Again, I would love to hear from others who have had a similar experience. I am very concerned about sex as well. Surprisingly, I have had no pain with this condition, just some very embarrassing situations that have made me hesitant to have sex at all. Luckily I have a wonderful marriage and husband, but I miss the sexual connection so much.
