OK, I knew I wasn't the only one! How do I find out more about this, there has to be some sort of explanation, right? Anyone?

I am currently 16 years old and I have had ASMR for my entire life. My ASMR is based on either external triggers or by imagining previously experienced triggers in my head. The triggers are as follows and listed by effect and power:

- A stranger or someone I met recently slowly and with a distinct accent saying something with a kind, idyllic or generous theme, not necessarily aimed at me.

- Scratching my own skin, my legs, my arms or my scalp in particular. Note that this only strengthens an existent sensation and does not cause one by itself.

- Using an old objects such as paper, books, boxes, or similar for their desired purpose, which for my examples would be reading or placing things inside the box. Particularly if the action is in itself meaningless, such as reading a book I have no interest in etc.

- Watching or hearing someone doing something trivial that they are good with. When I was younger I would sometimes pretend that I performed a task requiring a lot of knowledge and skill. For example: Sometimes when I were consuming food or drink with peculiar tastes (strong or bitter), I would pretend that I was something like a food critic and that I with great precision identified qualities of the taste. In hindsight I realize that I did it exclusively for ASMR.

I think it is pretty clear that there is a connection with conditions like Aspergers and Tourettes. I myself suffer from Tourettes which is closely related to Aspergers. ASMR is all about human interaction, habits, repetition and obsession with particular categories or skills. These are also the main aspects of Aspergers.

Really glad I found this! I had a tough time just trying to describe it when googling it! The earliest memory of this feeling is when I was in Kindergarten and my friend was braiding my hair. Anyone touching my hair triggers this. I also get the feeling when someone is touching my things, like when they borrow a pencil or walking through my house. There are other instances where it happens but can't quite categorize it, sometimes I feel like its random. The feeling doesn't always trigger every single time the above mentioned happens, though. Like not everyone who comes in my house will trigger it, and when I go to get my haircut I don't get the feeling. How strange! I want to hear more about this. I'm so happy I'm not the only one.

I am another tingler. I tend to get this feeling when a stranger asks me questions, like survey questions, or being interviewed.  It's so good I just want to discover new ways to fuel it. A lot of the videos people have posted I struggle to get the 'tingle'.

i know exactly what your talking about!! and i absolutely love it! its most powerful feeling to me when i watch people do things like draw, or listen to someone explain something and draw it... stuff like that.. i was actually watching a video on youtube just a minute ago and i kept getting that sensation and ive always experienced and wondered about it since i was a kid. why i chose year 23 to explore it, is beyond me. i thought everybody experienced it to. but i decided to look it up and see what the heck it is cause i enjoy it and i wanna see how to increase it or make it occur more often, lol. sometimes when people are drawing/explaining something to me, ill play dumb and get them to continue in depth, so i keep getting that feeling...lmao anyways im glad to hear other stories. ill write more tomorrow. im going to bed its late.

What amazes me about it is that people, I normally don't particularly care to be around, can sit down next to me and brush their finger across a stack of papers or something like that and it will trigger most intense and pleasurable waves of tingles over my scalp. People I like and strangers can trigger it too, but I find it interesting how people I don't really care for can trigger a  sensation that makes me want them to stick around for a while.

It is so strange . . . I had ASMR very intensely when I was younger. And then I just forgot about it. I never questioned what it was, and it seemed to go away for several years (20s-30).

Knowing how YouTube is, I somehow randomly stumbled upon ASMR videos (I was trying to find a tutorial on tying monkey knots). I couldn't believe I forgot that I had this, and that it had a name. I was enthralled to remember these forgotten responses! And it was amazing at how quickly these videos brought them on again. I knew exactly what my triggers were: watching and hearing someone brush/play with hair, the sound of chalk on a chalkboard, the sound of light, padding footfalls on linoleum. So strange. I get a tingling that starts at my scalp and runs along my spine. When it's a very strong response I can feel the tingling down to my feet.

I also remember when I was young, my friend would poke me in the back with a pencil during class--if she poked me hard enough in enough random places, it was like my back would "anticipate" being poked again, and seize up and spasm with a similar response, though I wouldn't call that response "pleasant" exactly. It was tingling and autonomous, and very intense. My mom found this out and was perplexed by it. She wanted to understand so she would sit and poke my back until I spasmed. Good memories.

Today I discovered that these sensations I have are shared by other people. Surprising and very interesting. Currently I am browsing these posts to learn more. For your question; I have a tattoo (semi-large on upper arm) and remember that it was no pain involved when it was created..a very mild sting perhaps, but at the same time pleasant..not sure if it connected to this (ASMR?), but never the less, that was my experience..

yes ive experienced this many times the first i can remember was when i was about 10. It happens to me when someone is showing me something like a shop makeup saleswoman or even a telephone marketer when they talk in a soft gentle voice. If they touch me lightly, say on the hand or especially touch my hair it intensifies the feeling! A couple of years ago i watched a woman showing how to make a cup of herbal tea on You Tube and i got the sensation. I wondered what it was and if other people experienced it! So i looked for it on Google but could not find anything that seemed the same thing. Recently my daughter told me she had had this strange feeling and wondered what is was! She is 22. I then asked my other daughter and she said she got it too! I have never asked anyone else about it thinking that they would think i was very odd or even kinky! Its extremely pleasurable but is not in any way sexual. I have no control over it but can seek out insidents/people who i think may trigger it. Also after it has happened ican recall the feeling again for a couple of hours but then it goes away and i cant trigger it myself, so i guess that makes me type B!? It is wonderful to have stumbled on a website where others know what im talking about and i am really interested in finding out more about it. Like can eveybody experience this given the right trigger for them? Also i would love to learn how to relyably trigger myself, it would be a fantastic way to destress and relax much better than any type of drug I have tried! I wonder if this is something to do with Serotonin or other brain chemicals as i am now on an antidepressant and sadly have not been able to trigger this since!! Thanks for your post and I keenly seek to learn more about this phenomenon!!

Wow as everyone else has said it is awesome to discover I am not alone! The craziest part is I just discovered I was alone by searching the Internet. Up untill this point I assumed everyone in the world received this feeling. I have been getting this feeling for as long as I can remember. Since about second grade. Really intense tingling feel good ecstasy feeling that has lately been in my neck but often is a crown around my head or up through my back. I am 21 years old now, male. I have noticed that it has an affect on me when I come to a realization, have someone draw on my back, whisper in my ear, share with someone, or let someone do something even though I can do it. This feeling is amazing. I got on here because I was curious about the science behind it and to my surprise I discovered it is rare! I have never talked about this before and I am glad I searched

I am pretty excited that i found this thread. This has been happening to me for as long as I can remember. The list of triggers for me are endless. People looking for something in a store ( I worked at a pet store), people drawing, whistling, really almost anything. I almost feel as if i can control it. I really hope I found out what this really is. THIS IS CRAZY OTHER PEOPLE DO THIS

I know this feeling well. I have not had it in many years. I would get it as a child when attention was being paid to me by an authority figure such as my dad or certain teachers.. I think I got it some while getting a haircut and have heard others express a similar feeling then. I have not had the chill part that I used to get, but I have had the fluttering in the ear feeling, actually while withdrawing from a medication. But it was not unpleasant. The flutter is uncontrollable and it comes in waves. It "sounds" like blood flowing rapidly or under pressure somewhere close to my ears.

I should also add to my previous reply that I have sometimes felt that this is what is being described by whomever coined the term "warm fuzzies".

A website might add credence to this feeling and more understanding about it.
