What causes swelling in the vigina?

hi..I have notice about a week or so ago, that i smelt awful down there and I had a very clumpy white discharge along with burning more than icthing. I have also very painful swelling inside my vigina, I can bearly fit a monistat stick in me. I was told by a nurse that it seemed to be a yeast infection. But this Nurse was not authorized to do a pap, So she did not know for sure and could only go off of what I told her. She gave me a pill to take on thursday of last week and said it should clear up in a couple of days. But, now here it is monday and I still have swelling and painful burning. If you might know what this is please respond.
