Hello. I have excruciating upper abdominal pain when i try to tie my shoes or bend down to pick up something fom the floor. It is located at left side below the ribcage. It feels like sudden cramping which goes away when i stand up. Last time it looked like something popped out and then back in place right at my solar plexus when it happened. The area affected feels like numb constant pain and tender to the deep touch. This stsrted happening about 5 years ago, it comes and goes randomly. 5 years ago, endoscope for gerb came negative, ultrasound detected fluid around my heart. Im otherwise healthy 56 year old female, slightly overweight. What other test might be there that i can ask my doctor to perform to get to the bottom of this? I saw other exact questions/posts about the same topic in this forum. Any suggestions are welcome.

Hey, dressmaker.

I just looked at your question, so here is my insight.

The most common cause of sudden sharp pain or cramping in the solar plexus region and left lower ribcage is a condition called costochondritis. Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs to the sternum. Treatment for costochondritis typically involves rest, pain relievers, and anti-inflammatory medications. In some cases, physical therapy, a heating pad, or a topical cream may be recommended to help reduce inflammation and pain.

Other potential causes of pain in this area may include muscle strain, pleurisy, or a rib fracture.

Have your doctor told you anything about these potential causes?

Hi, again.

It is necessary to do further testing in order to determine the cause of your pain.

Additionally, your doctor may also recommend lifestyle modifications such as changes to your diet and exercise regimen, as well as medications to help manage your symptoms.

Keep us updated about your condition and good luck.
