What injuries or diseases casue muteness? I have a friend that is mute and can't really ask them and i'm not trying to be funny. I'm am learnign sign language to communicat with them but i wanted to know how they could have become mute becaus ei thought i heard that they became mute a year or two ago. please tell me.

I am not sure what is the main cause behind this condition, but I think that there is a physical problem and there is a psychological problem. When you have problems with your throat or vocal cords then you are not able to speak because you have physical problem. Also problems in lungs, mouth or problems with tongue could also be the main reasons for being mute. Muteness can also be caused by deafness from birth because you are not able to hear yourself speak and there for you are not able to learn how to speak.
