I just had bunion/hammertoe surgery and I am experiencing the same symptoms as you. Assuming that you are healed, how long did it take? Thanks

Hello! I am 3 days post op and can honestly say this I the worst pain I have ever experienced (and I have had over a dozen major abdominal surgeries in my lifetime. Can you tell me how you are doing a year after your surgery? Just looking for a little comfort/reassurance that I did the right thing by having this surgery.

I am sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I had Bunion surgery about 8 weeks ago and have had absolutely no pain at all. I attribute that to the fact that the doctor recommended an ice machine that I used for 15 minutes almost every hour for the first week post surgery. I didn't need pain meds after that and then used the ice machine only occasionally. I think it was the best investment I ever have made! (my insurance did not cover the purchase price $250). Now that I am back to regular athletic shoes, I am experiencing a bit of a numb feeling . I start physical therapy in a few days.

I am a 34 year old PE teacher and coach.  I had bunion surgery 2 weeks ago and feel pretty good.  The first 3 days after the surgery were rough as the feeling came back to my foot. That pain was not bad but uncomfortable.   I have a walking boot and iced my ankle the first few days.  I had my stitches taken out last week and began moving my big toe around this week.  That is actually the most painful part.  I do 2-3 sets of toe bends per day but I can tell the difference.

I had bunion surgery to both feet as well as a claw toe repair, five weeks ago. I had a pin in the claw toe which was removed yesterday. My feet are very swollen which the doctor says is normal and could continue for some weeks yet. I am able to remove the protective foam shoe and walk on my feet but as the balls of the feet are swollen I can't use my toes properly yet. There is still some soreness and stiffness in the incision areas, and some numbness. All this is normal.

The doctor told me I should be back to normal in about another six weeks. I haven't tried to wear any shoes yet because of the swelling.I only wear flat shoes in a wide fitting and expect to have to wear this type of shoe for the rest of my life so that the bunions do not recur.

I had surgery 7/13/12 and was in horrible pain the first night- basically cried myself to sleep. I was off meds after 4 weeks. Started walking without crutched by late August and didn't get out of the surgical boot until mid December.

it is normal. I felt like I had no control in my big toe. You have to move it yourself in a circular rotation with your hands. Eventually you'll gain control of it

Hello, my name is Chezzie, I have had bunions all my life and so have all the girls in the family, I was always too scared to have anything done about them even though I hate them, a friend of my mother scared the life out of me when she had the operation when I was 7 and that stayed with me.  I was 60 in December when I finally decided to see a specialist, mainly because of a painful hammer toe and other painful places on my feet, everywhere except the bunion!!  I had surgery on my left foot on Wednesday and can only say that I had a great day in hospital and didn't feel or hear a thing, I was given a sedative and a nerve block from the knee down.  The first day after the feeling came back it was pretty uncomfortable but since then no pain at all with just paracetamol.  I wish that I had had it done years ago.

I find it very hard to believe that they will operate on an 11 year old and send you back to school a week later, which process are they going to use do you know?

It may help to cut the toe off a thick sock, or cut out a section of a sock so your toe has no pressure on it. Recommended foot exercises should help build up your foot strength again, as well as improving the blood supply and nerve regeneration. Some nerves may never regrow. I have a portion of my abdo with no feeling, after a caesarian section 22 years ago. Make ice your best friend for your foot as you recover. It will also help the pain with exercising. Best of luck. You are three weeks closer to a full recovery.

If anybody is about to have surgery one tip that I was told in the hospital by the two other patients in my room really helped me. I have Meniere's so balance problems, to use a Zimmer frame, walking rack instead of crutches in the house, so much easier and much more stable.

Hello Guest, have just seen your email, and wonder how you are now, Did everything heal up properly? How wonderful to be able to wear decent shoes again. Are you glad you had it fixed, and would you do it again if you had to? Cheers.
