I want to purchase a good mountain bike.

What do I need to look for? Where should I look? I don't mind buying used--if I do that, what should I look for?

How much am I going to spend to get a good bike?

Any and all advice is really appreciated. I have had bad luck with all the bikes I've purchased as an adult.

As a dedicated roadie, but a bike for it's fit. Everything else is secondary. If the frame doesn't fit and isn't comfortable, you won't want to ride it. Every other part on the bike can be upgraded/resized.

Why do you want a MTB?

I would really like to do trail riding, but will do a lot of street riding for sure.

A good seat.

Make sure (if possible) that you test ride it first.

For trail riding, I'd probably go with a hard tail (no rear suspension). It will just add to the weight and cost of the bike.

Spend decent money and go to a bike store also. You will get what you pay for.

Bicycling magazine is pretty good so you may want to pick that up they always have good tips.
