Hello. I'm 16 year old female and I would like to find out more about the condition I have developed. You see, about three days ago I have noticed that I have itchy bumps on my upper lip. I didn’t pay too much attention on it because I didn’t think that it could be something serious. But, the next day these little bumps get bigger and turned into some kind of blisters. I have never seen anything like this and I would like to find out more about this condition. I don’t recall anything that could caused this accept the fact that I was on some barbeque with my friends few days ago and that we all drank the water from the same bottle. Could this mean anything? How serious this condition is and how long does it take to resolve!?

Hello. The thing you have described is most likely a herpes simplex infection. Someone from your crew has slipped you a virus on that bottle. The appearance of HSV is often typical and no testing is needed to confirm the diagnosis. Herpes simplex infection is usually associated with infections of the lips, mouth, and face. There are two kinds of infections — primary and recurrent. The most common symptoms are genital lesions and ulcers - most frequent on the mouth, lips and gums or genitalia as well as the fever blisters.
Good thing about this is that it will most probably disappear after 5-7 days without any special treatment and you will have no other problems with it. The bed news is that you will carry this virus in your cell for long as you live.
