Ladies, I don't know why you'd be scared to tell a doctor or your mother or sister about what you're finding.  All women should do self exams (so should men, really), so it's not as if you're all alone with this.  If you tell your mom, you may be surprised to find that they may well have already been down this path.  They may be able to relieve you of a lot of this anxiety.  If not, it is certain they will support you in owning and dealing with the question of what's going on.  A dermatologist deals with this kind of thing all the time, many times a day.  A good dermatologist might have  a look and tell you right away that it's nothing or it's just a benign cyst.  They may take a sample of it and send it to a lab to be sure.  In any event, please don't be afraid to ask someone for help.  There is no reason why you should feel alone and there's certainly nothing to be embarassed about.  And, if it actually turns out to require attention, your best bet is to catch it the sooner the better.

Meanwhile, I don't know if you'd read my earlier post describing a lot of why you're seeing.  If you haven't, you might consider doing so.  In any event, see a professional and get it diagnosed.  Something or nothing, it's better to know than it is to wonder and be afraid.

Hi!

I realize the original post here is fairly old, but I thought I would share this information for anyone who may be looking for answers.  There is a condition that causes painful, recurring cysts under the breasts, in the armpits, and the groin/inner thigh area.  It is called hidradenitis suppurativa.  There is finally coming to be more information available on this condition; if you do a search you should be able to find more about it.  It took many years for me to discover what it was, so I hope this information helps someone!

I too have had this same issue for several years. Mine aren't large or swollen, but form around my aureolas. My doctor said they were "blocked milk ducts" That's complete c**p. I've come to realize what it actually is. It's a form of cystic acne. I know- it doesn't look like it at all, but if you cut out a piece and run it under a microscope- that's exactly what it is. The hair follicles are small on a women's chest. (Hopefully unless they are oddly hairy.) This is a very sensitive region as well. Small pores coupled with wearing a bra all day trapping the skin, causes a build up of oil and keratin. Unfortunately, when you squeeze these bumps, you disrupt the oil sack deep underneath. This causes it to rupture and to spread. Though it may look very different it's the same as cystic acne that people get on the face. The larger cysts that are developing are created by these ruptures. It's really important to stop being aggressive with popping them. I understand trust me. I have had 4 small bumps all in a row around my nipple for 10 months. As long as I don't mess with them, they are almost unnoticeable. Once you damage the cells, it's really hard to stop it from coming back. It's not a disease or even a bacteria- it's just the oily sack far beneath the skin has been messed up. Keeping your breasts and chest as dry as possible is a really good idea. Using witch hazel and a gentle face scrub will help remove dead skin cells and may help prevent progression

I'm 15 and I recently got this bump on the areola of my left breast and it looked like the little bumps on my nipple became enflamed. I thought it was nothing until I took a shower and saw that it had tremendously increased in size so I touched it and pus came out so I just kept sqeezing and more pus and blood came out. I was so scared because with the pus came a little hard thing that kind of felt like the inside of a zit. After that it still looked the same but it had a little hole in it and strangely it didn't hurt when I popped it. I later cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and put cortisone on it and now it's flat and looks like its starting to heal but I'm going to get it checked out anyway. I'm just glad I'm not the only one with this problem because I was freaking out!

Hidradenitis Suppurativa I am 28 years old and have dealt with this same issue since elementary school.  I am scarred and my right breast is dramatically smaller than my left breast due to all the cysts I have dealt with over the years.  I have found that it does clear up with the help of fake sunshine (tanning bed)...even though it is sooo very bad for you it does help...I recommend going at least once a month.  My love life with my husband is horrible because I wont let him look at me naked and I wont allow him to touch my right breast because there is now pain involoved.  It sucks.  I cannot wear a regular bathing suit because my inner thighs are so scarred that I have to wear a skirt, shorts or some sort of cover up....no fun when all your friends are out there in their sexy bikinis!  I have had a time in my life where my skin became alot clearer....I was more active, the shower water was different (I really think that plays a big part - so check your water!!) and I went to the tanning bed alot more back in the day.  I have tried cream after cream, acne medicines, body washs.....turns out this isn't acne at all...its Hidradenitis Suppurative....so if you are using acne cream then STOP you are treating it for the wrong thing......I cannot afford a doctor (gotta love our countrys healthcare) so I just go on day by day hating my body....it truly sucks. I have cysts on my breasts (both breast now...it spread to my left one :(, inner thighs, underarms, and below my belly button....I am scarred all over.....so trust me when I say that you are not the only one!  If anyone ever finds an actual cure then PLEASE post it!  Im sure all of us would love to know!

I, too, have had this problem. I have sensitive skin, so I thought it was just any other rash from being sweaty with a bra on. I have larger breasts, also, so ai just thought it was something to be ignored. After dealing with pus, I decided to get online to check it out. I searched and searched coming up with nothing and then finally found this! So glad you ladies have posted!

hi you guys, I think I know what's going on. You all have described a condition which I have been diagnosed with that affects me under the armpits, on my breasts, and on my inner thighs. It's called Hidradenitis suppurativa. You should look it up and ask your doctor about it. I have been given a medication, powder and cream for it, and the Dr. told me to stay as cool as possible during the summer, cause that helps. I hope I was of some help.

Hi. I have experienced painful cysts on my underarms, breasts, inner thighs, buttocks, and have had to have them removed my surgery. This condition is called HS. HS is short for Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), also known as 'Acne Inversa', is a physically, psychologically, and socially disabling disease affecting inverse areas of the body (those places where there is skin-to-skin contact - armpits, groin, breasts, etc.), and where apocrine glands and hair follicles are found. It is non-contagious and recurrent; typically manifesting as a progression from single boil-like, pus-filled abscesses, or hard sebaceous lumps, to painful, deep-seated, often inflamed clusters of lesions with chronic seepage (suppuration --- hence the name) involving significant scarring.

I have learned that Nizoral Shampoo with Ketoconazole can be used as a body wash to help reduce and prevent these cysts from occuring. Avoid being in the heat and try to wear cotton clothing as well. For topical creams you can get Ketoconazole 2% cream prescribed and apply that with your gauze dressings to promote healing. Also sulphur based medications do help and this is why you should alternate creams with Silver Sulphadine. Oral antibiotics should be used to get rid of infections. If you have puss coming out this is an infection and you should follow with your dr. The medications that work are Cipro or Doxycyclin.

HS is not acne and is most commonly misdiagnosed. ACCUTANE DOES NOT CURE HS! In fact it makes it worse. I wish someone told me that 15 years ago because I suffered from the side effects of the medication and it made things worse. Proactive doesn't work either and will make the skin crack and irritate the already inflamed area. I wish someone told me that because it felt like I had a chemical burn on top of the HS. Valtrex doesn't work because it is not Herpes and not a virus regardless of what the doctor tells you, ask questions and do your research. If they say it might help they are taking a guess.

What works is stay hidrated. Don't smoke or be around second hand smoke. Your body needs oxygen to heal and fight off infection. Stress, illness, and getting your menstrual cycle will bring on HS. Knowing this take extra showers and use Nizoral in those areas that reinflammation occurs followed with applying the two ointments that I mentioned. Hot compresses are great for opening the pores and be clean.  Draining cysts should always be done with gloves and discard of bandages and papertowel immediately. Keep wounds covered to prevent your clothes from being soiled and wash everything including linens in hot water.

There is no cure for HS and in extreme cases where antibiotics don't work surgery needs to be done. Knowledge is power and if you know how to manage with HS it makes life easier.

A fruit to eat to prevent the cysts from coming is Guanabanna also known as Sour Sop. It is a miracle fruit and prevents cancer and is used to treat 12 different types of cancer as well as preventing abnormal cells from forming. It attacks the bad cells without the negative effects of Kemo and it better than taking antiobiotics every month that oftenly you grow immune to.

For pain management take Ibuprophen because it is a anti-inflammatory and will help with the swelling. If needed you may have to see a pain management specialist to get prescribed pain killers. Percocet works the best and make sure that you take them with food.

Always follow with your doctor before trying any of what I have recommended. I am sharing with you what works for me and everyone is different. I hope that the information that I provided can help.

Hi Ladies! I get those all the time and they are boils! They are an over infected pimple that gets huge, some people get golf ball size ones and in that case see a doctor. Hot compresses help bring them to a head so you can release the pressure. Do not squeeze them, you only risk a worse infection. I have been to the Dr many times and each time it is the same answer. They grow where you sweat the most. I have found that placing aloe vera plant leaf and a bandaid over the top tends to work wonders. You can also put neosporin and a bandaid overnight and that works too! Good Luck!

I have this cyst/acne breast problem too :( The cysts become extremely painful and my areolas are all painful and scabbed up now because some cysts are coming to the surface and I can squeeze them and I can't help myself :/ I've been applying Cetaphil lotion and tea tree oil, and covering up the worse nipple with a huge bandaid during the day. It's very upsetting that there is no treatment for this other than to get the cyst fluid sucked out with a syringe, or to use Accutane. Those appear to be the only real options. I know I would get better if I didn't squeeze and pick but I have a problem with that. I wish we had a real answer for this problem. It's sad that we can send people to space but we can't fix cystic acne/fibrocystic breasts.

Oh also, sometimes when the cysts are bad my lymph nodes swell, either by my neck, armpit or groin.

This is not a problem, they are glands for your breasts that help your breasts go through some changes when you are pregnant. It is important not to squeeze these, they are not a problem. They are a normal part of your human anatomy.
