Hello! I wear glasses for my myopia which was discovered when I was ten years old. My doctor explained that myopia was an inherited condition. Then during my teenage years my myopia got really worse. My eye doctor told me this was caused by rapid body growth. I am 22 now and there is a little change. During the teenage years, when the body is growing rapidly, nearsightedness gets worse. Will my myopia vision get worse when I hit 40's?
Hello! Although myopia is usually well treated with glasses or contact lenses it cannot be kept from getting worse once you have it. It usually gets worse, often rapidly, until the late teens or early 20s, as you already noticed, and then it usually stabilizes. It will not improve as you get older but and it will not get much worse. Maybe you should take it easy with close work, such as reading or sitting too close to the television or a computer.
I am 44 and MINE DID! I have always had it very slightly (-0.25 in one eye -0.50 in the other) but since my last exam a year ago somehow I am now -1.25 and -1.50.
