Ive been taking 10mg of Methadone 3 times a day for 2 weeks and then i wont for 2 weeks and then ill do the same thing again off and on off and on...ive been doing this for about 2 or 3 months. I am worried that someone may call Children protective services on me, so i am wondering at the rate I take this how long will it take for me to pass a urine test. I know that in order for methadone to come up I will specifically have to be tested for that...and i am sure the person i am thinking will call on me will tell them that is what I am on....so help i am so worried!!!!

Hi Katie,

I know that getting off methadone is very difficult and can be next to impossible. My sister had been taking methadone 3 times a week (similar to you) for two years, when the doctors decided it was wreaking too much havok on her system. She was forced to quit cold turkey. This was absolutely devastating to her system. She was physically ill for days. If possible, I would take control of the situation yourself and gradually wean yourself from the drug. After my sister recovered from the withdrawals she has started losing weight and gaining tons of energy -- so there is hope on the otherside... just got to get there.

As motivation for quitting methadone, take a look at all of the side effects that have been reported by consistent users of the drug:

cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and suicide are the top 3 side effects.

Anyway, hoping you can find a way to get off of the drug, and wishing you and your family the best.

I can't say for sure how long it will stay in your system, but with a half-life of 24-36 hours, I would guess several weeks.

Be sure you hide the fact that you're doing methadone specifically from people. Like you said it has to be tested for specifically. That's why I took massive amounts of it when I was on probation.

Actually you're better off not doing it at all. At the moment it sounds like you have it under decent control, but that can change really fast.
