if they're still spongy they should be okay. if you throw one against the wall and it crumbles, probably not a good thing.

No! You're in good company! They were part of my hot choco kit from a friend last Christmas. And they're fine once the hot chocolate melts them a little. 8)

If you melt it, it would make a mess.

If you don't roast them, marshmellows aren't worth eating, period.
