My 4 year old daughter has been having these same symptoms for a couple weeks on and off. They are always at night and the pain wakes her up from a deep sleep. She complains of pain in her anus and her vagina either at the same time or one or the other. If anyone has any more possible diagnosis, please post. Thank you.

My 8 1/2 year old daughter seems to be following suit with many of the issues posted here. Unfortunately, her discomfort / pain also only occurs at night. This is the third such episode in the past year. I don't know what to believe. I'm embarassed to say that I too haven't always believed her. She is known for being melodramatic and exaggerating. However, she is very upset and I don't want to ignore her cries for help. Has anyone found anything that has helped to ease the pain? What types of doctors have you visited? Is it just the pediatrician or urologist?

It has been 1 1/2 hours since she first woke me up and now she seems to be resting comfortably again. I gave her some Tylenol and put some triple paste and corn starch powder on her vaginal exterior. I also wrapped an ice pack in a fluffy towel for her to place between her legs...as you can imagine, this was not something she liked trying. However, I had no idea what else to do or try. Please help!!

So has no one been able to update with results from the doctor? My 4 yr old daughter has suffered from this for about 1 year. As others have said, it only happens in the middle of the night, she knocks her knees together/rocks back and forth/squeezes her knees together to try to relieve the pain. The only thing that seems to help is a warm bath. But likes others have said too, I don't always believe the pain is as bad as she makes it out to be. She tends to stretch the truth sometimes. It will happen everynight for 1-3 weeks, then not again for a month or two. We've had urine test and checked for worms. Durning the last episode, I noticed a thick white creamy discharge in her vagina. The dr gave us some topical cream to help with the burning... it doesn't seem to do much for the pain. A few nights, we've just been very sturn with her and told her NO bath, NO cold rag, NO medicine (if it doesn't look red/irritated) and she's fine and goes back to sleep after a few minutes... I feel so bad for her. I'm glad I found this message board... I guess well be headed back to the doctor tomorrow.

My daughter is 5 year old. She is complaining of vaginal/pelvic pain, usually in the night around 2am which would last for 20 mins or so. Then shes goes to sleep. Sometimes I give her Tylenol pain reliever 5ml. We checked with her Pediatrician, did a Urine culture, came negative, stool culture came negative, ultrasound did not catch anything. He referred to a Pediatric GastroEnterologist and they took an X-Ray and found lot of stools in the body, constipation. Then, put her in Miralax however still once in every few days the pain wakes her up. The specialist said if the pain continues, they need to do a procedure in the hospital to clear up the stools. Not sure that is the reason. Next thing, I am going to see whether we need to check with a Urologist or a Nephrologist to find anything. Would it be anything to nerve pain - like a neurological issue? As a Christian, I am praying to the Lord Jesus Christ for her complete healing. If I find anything, I will keep you posted. If you guys find anything, please post yours too, it might help everyone.

I am so relieved to have found this web page as I thought my daughter was the only one. she has all the same symptoms waking from a dead sleep screamgn blue murder and clutching between her leg. She will throw herself about and wont let me anywhere near to her to calm her down. This has been goin on maybe once a month for over a year now. I at first put it down to night terrors as she will usually go back to sleep after 20 mins or so. last night it was so bad i called for th out of hours doctor only to be told it was probably a bowel spasm and it would pass even though i tried to explain to the doctor its her front that hurts her not her back!!!! I took her to my own gp this morning who is brilliant with kids and we are now getting her tested for kidney stones. If thr results come back as negative we will be referred to the pediatrician for further testing. I myself went through puberty at the age of 2 and the doctor thinks its better safe than sorry to get her tested if she does not have stones. However saying that our doctor has also said that it could just be night terrors. maybe a reoccuring dream, maybe about their private areas which wakes them up terrified and screaming until they realise theyre no longer dreaming!!!

Im hoping to have some answers to this soon and will post if and when i do

Both my 10 year old and 7 year old daughters have this same thing. They were about 3 when this started. At first it was only occasionally, but now it's several nights a week. They are fine during the day, but are in pain at night. It also seems to come in waves, like spasms. Nothing seems to help or stop it. I have tried every brand of femine itch/burn cream there is, but nothing seems to stop it. We've tried cool baths, ice packs, everything. I've been to the doctor several times about this and he doesn't have an answer for me. The doctor always does a urine test for a UTI or bladder infection, but it's always negative, so he just keeps telling me their skin is getting irritated, but can't tell me why it's only at night. I've made sure they are wiping correctly, alway rinse off good after swimming, are wearing clean underwear, and I wash their underwear by itself in Dreft. I'm at a complete loss as to why this is happening and why it only happens at night. If anyone has ever gotten an answer or has any suggestions, please help.

If ANYONE has found a solution for this, please post it. My 2 year old daughter just started to have this problem, and the doctor can't figure it out. This is very disturbing.

In rare cases, vaginal itching can be associated with pinworms, which look like small pieces of thread and are about a quarter of an inch long. Usually pinworms cause itching around the anal area, but they can also manifest in the lower vagina. Pinworms tend to cause symptoms at night when they migrate out of the anal area. If recognized, pinworms are diagnosed very easily with fecal cultures and are easily treatable. See your doctor for this!!!!! Immediately and demand tests even if your child has to stay over night for them to watch it in action

I really hope this helps all of you moms out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm the mom with the 10 and 7 year old daughters both experiencing this. Both tested negative for pin worms. I have had them both start eating yogurt everyday. There has been improvement in my 7 year old by doing this. Only 3 episodes in the past 3 weeks, versus 3 nights a week. It hasn't been effective in my 10 year old though. She still has this 3 to 4 nights a week.

I too have an 8 year daughter that is complaining of severe vaginal pain only at night.

She says the pain is on top of her vagina area, and in her area where she uses the restroom. This seems to go on for 2-4 days, and then she will be fine for 2-3 weeks.

When this is happening she feels as if she has to potty and can't.

Any answers would be helpful.

My daughter is 7 and has been having periodic episodes of horrible writhing pain in her privates. She has been having them off and on for a couple of years. They always come at night and she is always fine during the day. Sometimes it is just before bed and sometimes it wakes her up in the middle of the night. Her back arches and then her stomach tightens and she is literally screaming in pain. All she can say is that it is in her privates while she clutches at them. The pain comes in waves and subsides for a few seconds or a minute and then comes back again. I don't think it is any type of premature menstrual cramps because her lower abdomen doesn't seem to hurt, it is more of a burning pain in the vaginal/labia region. All I can do is put Vaseline on her privates, give her Tylenol, and hold her. The episodes last a couple of hours or so then she falls asleep sweaty and exhausted. I do encourage her to try going potty. She hasn't had an episode like this for several months then last night she had an episode--it is so hard to see her go through that pain and not be able to do anything about it. We have tried warm baths in the past and it didn't seem to help.

We went to the pediatric urologist last year when she was having these episodes and there was no bladder infection, and he did an ultrasound and everything was fine. He thought it was something to do with constipation, she does seem to get it more when she is constipated. He also said she could have a yeast infection, I told him I had used Monistat cream on her for 7 days and he said that I have to use it longer than that. He said use it every night--slather it on externally--not internally for 6 weeks. He said it takes that long for all the skin cells with yeast to sluff off and regenerate. We did this last year and it seemed to help but it was very hard to stick to especially as they get better. I guess I will start her on Mira-lax again for constipation and start the yeast cream.

Last night during her episode, she was in so much pain that she started hitting her legs saying she wanted the pain to stop and she didn't want to live anymore--so scary.

Is anyone having these exact symptoms and has anyone found the cause?

I don't wish this on anyone but I am glad to see I am not alone with this.

Thanks!

Ok, so I'm not alone in this problem! We live in South Africa and my 3 and a half year old has just fallen asleep from what has just started to become our nightly session of burning and painful vagina and bottom. It's exactly the same as most of you have said - def only at night and it wakes her up from even deep sleep.
At first I thought it was just because now at school the kids go to the loo themselves and sometimes the kids don't clean themselves properly etc and that can cause irritation but there is no redness or obvious signs.
It started a few times every couple of weeks and it's now part of our normal night :-(
Thinking it may be thrush or something like that from hormone changes I have her on Reuteri junior (pro-biotics) chewable tabs and I use a thrush cream (Canestan) before bed but as I see tonight even preventative measures don't seem to be helping. I have to say though that before tonight the thrush cream did help. A bath also helps just to relieve the pain but as soon as I take her out of the bath it starts again.

It seems to be mainly with her vagina and she tries to fall asleep and then her legs will kick out and she will wriggle around and try and rub where it's sore.

My next theory is maybe some kind of allergy that is flaring all this up. Two nights ago I didn't have any problems and I didn't use soap in her bath the last two nights there has been soap so tomorrow is no soap again. That is the only thing I can think of from an allergy point of view. (so far)

I have to go now because the crying has just started again :-( :-( :-(.

I will keep reading to see if anyone has any more ideas.
