A friend of mine has not had a menstrual cycle in over 6 years. She just called me and today she is gushing. What could cause this? Could it be caused by drinking to much?

If she is truly gushing she should see her doctor ASAP.
Alcohol can act as a blood thinner causing bleeding, so could an ectopic pregnancy. Is she in any pain?
There are many possibilities. A visit to her doctor is in order.
Your friend should have seen a doctor ages ago about her total lack of periods (which is called amenorrhea) because that's really not normal for someone of reproductive age unless she is using some form of birth control such as the Mirena IUD, which can sometimes make periods stop.
Now that she is dealing with abnormal vaginal bleeding, she should most certainly see a doctor. "Gushing", as in a frightening amount of blood loss (soaking more than a maxi pad an hour) warrants a visit to the emergency room, even. This stuff needs to be taken seriously. Both the lack of periods and their sudden reappearance.
