Hello! My grandfather is 64 old and he got shingles four days ago. He was weak and not feeling well more then one week. Otherwise he is a very healthy old man. Our doctor prescribed Zovirax of 800 mg four times daily for one week, but my grandfather keeps telling me that he needs aciclovir al 800. Isn't that the same thing? Also, he wants to take it only after meals, but I think it is irrelevant. I need the correct information.
Hi! You are right, 800 mg of Zovirax tablet contains 800 mg of acyclovir and this is the same medicine. It is used for acute treatment of Herpes Zoster (shingles), in dosage of 800 mg usually every four hours, five times daily for seven to ten days. It helps in healing, lesion scabbing and tranquilization of pain. Zovirax tablets are oval, blue and engraved with "Zovirax 800", usually in bottle of 100. Tablets can be taken with or without food since it is not noticed that food affects the absorption of this medicine in any way.
