I took adderral for about a year and developed hemorrhoids, it started the same way as described, bright red blood in stool. after 6 months of Doctor visits and research I discovered it was the adderral , since it is a stimulant, it makes you want to go to the bathroom. If you go to the bathroom and strain you’ll start pushing the veins around your anus and create a hemorrhoids.

Yes ! I just started Adderall this week and noticed I have blood in my stool. I think I will have to stop taking it. I’ve read on line Amphetamines cause bloody stools.

Hello brightbloodystools33740,

I want to advise that Adderall is a significant contribution to having blood in the stool. This happened to me but please have your husband stop using the medication and there will be a reduction in the blood, and then it will completely stop after 2 months of being off of the pills.

This has been the most useful information I’ve gotten after working myself into a panic over the last month. Doctors didn’t seem to give it much thought, basically just assumed I’d get better. I must admit, I was going a bit over board and also taking medication more frequently than I should have been. I stopped cold turkey about 3 weeks ago, after taking them religiously for 2 years. It’s been difficult, but the fear got the best of me and I’ve been scared to take them again. Recently, I’ve noticed my mood as grumpy and sad, I’m completely unmotivated (and don’t really mind it?), energy levels are non existent, and really I’m just sinking back into that place I fought so hard to get out of. What do you recommend I do? I considered taking it only 2-3 days a week, and drastically lowering my dosage (from 60mg to 20mg). I am only scared to do so because not only was I having blood in my stool and on my toilet paper, but what followed for about a week or two after I quit taking them, was a pretty intense stomach cramping and overall pain, which I don’t think I could bare a second time. I’m in a pickle, and I don’t know weather to prioritize my mental well being, or physical. Sorry for the rant, and thanks for the helpful message!:)

I have to say that this thread saved me. Quite literally my last 2 years have been hell trying to figure out my health. I was put on Adderall 2 1/2 years ago for adult ADHD six months later I started having issues with my bowels. Three months later, I started bleeding profusely and finally gotten to a G.I. doctor. Long story short I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and put on medication‘s and steroids. They would work for a short time, and then I would have another flareup traditional medication‘s were not working, I was worried that I would need to have my bowel removed. After reading this page, and realizing multiple people have had similar issues with bleeding, I started researching. Apparently Adderall, can cause something called. Ischemic colitis basically causes blood flow to see stop flowing to part of your intestines. It’s not a common side effect, but I had been misdiagnosed and I went off of 4 other medication’s, after being off of Adderall for three weeks. The blood is gone. I was on a freaking medication to stop my immune system from working that was $22,000 every two months. I was on steroids for over a year. It scarred up my face with acne, messed with my bone density, made my hair fall out. All the while my doctors told me, Adderall has no effect on my colitis. If you are having any bleeding at all, get off it now. It is not hemorrhoids. Ischemic colitis can make you have surgery to remove parts of your intestines. It is serious, but can go away once you’re off of this medication. If you have an issue with this, all stimulant prescriptions should be off the table for you. It sucks, but it’s not worth the nightmare I went through. I hope this is helpful to someone else out there.
