I have used adderall on and off, approximately twice a month, just to type papers faster, I EAT AND DRINK a lot of water, gatorade(drink water before the gatorade, especially if you are out in the heat), and fibers. Fibers are; bread, peanuts, (peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches), nuts, mushrooms, cereal, fruit, and vegetables. Carbs are good as well. I have never had bloody stools. I think I had a hemroid once.

I started experiencing bloody stools shortly after I began taking adderall in 2006. Every time I pop a pill it is like a laxative and I have to poop within 15-20 minutes. I thought for the longest time that the adderall was the culprit for my bloody stools and diarrhea. Eventually things got bad and I was having diarrhea 10+ times a day. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease that causes bloody, mucousy, stool & diarrhea.

If you are seeing bright red blood in your stool frequently or on your T.P. you should really go to your doctor, give them a sample of your feces, they'll see that there is in fact blood in your stool, and then you may get a colonoscopy (diagnostic procedure) to see if they can find out what is causing the bleeding.

Although I have to manage UC for the rest of my life I felt SO MUCH better that I finally knew why I was BLEEDING from my insides and how to take care of it.

oh, and I still take adderall although I probably shouldn't because it most definitely exacerbates my UC symptoms.

Good luck.

Hello,

I too have been taking Adderall for ADD and have gotten bloody stools on a few occasions. My stool is not tarry itself so I know the bleeding is not internal. I have a theory why this could be happening, I believe that adderall creates stress on the body (afterall its an amphetamine), this stress causes the body to develop polyps or hemorrhoids, when the excrement passes over the polyps or hemorrhoids it causes them to start bleeding. I recommend getting some preparation H and if you feel rubbing put some ointment in that area if reachable. Overall I would not worry about it, it doesn't seem to be a major health risk.

I have been on adderall xr 20mg once daily for almost 2 weeks. I have been experiencing bloody stools for the last 3-4 days, it is bright red blood, and no pain, noticed on the TP and somewhat in the toilet bowl before i flush. this article helps alot, im really unsure if i need to tell my doctor about it. what should i do? im going to wait it out and see if it happends for more than a period of 7 days, if so, i'll really need to go see my doc.

bloody stools are never normal.

Common causes include as mentioned above- hemorrhoids, colitis from infection or inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular bleeds, polyps, cancer, or possibly arteriovenous malformations.

It is MOST important to note that none of these conditions can be diagnosed based only on symptoms with enough accuracy to exclude the possibility of cancer. This is why when you go to the doctor for rectal bleeding he will want to set you up for a colonoscopy and possibly other tests because THE DOCTOR cannot tell based just on your symptoms. Rectal bleeding is nothing to fool around with. It can kill you. I know it is embarrasing because I have had it myself but it is better to suffer the mild inconvenience of getting things looked at than to possibly get cancer and die.

This exact same thing happened to me too.

I've been healthy my entire life, until I started taking Adderall, when I then started getting bloody stools. This went on until I stopped taking the Adderall, and it got better. At that point I started taking Adderall again, and it came back. But this time when I stopped the Adderall, I didn't get better. I kept getting worse. I went to a doctor, got a colonoscopy, blood tests, etc, and was diagnosed with Crohns disease/ulcerative colitis/indeterminate colitis. I could swear this all started with the Adderall, and now it's something they tell me I have to cope with for the rest of my life. It sounds like the same thing has happened to several others. My gut tells me that if I had never taken Adderall, I would not have Crohns/colitis. Do others feel that way? This is a disease for which doctors have no idea why people get it. Is it possible that is could be initiated by Adderall?

Now I'm on several drugs, immunosuppresants, prednisone, etc to try to keep the colitis under control. It's not a fun way to live.

It's a hemorrhoid, simply put. I've read that this happens to a lot of people. I myself had a few of them for a while from an unknown cause. They went away for a very long time, but came back not a day after I started taking adderall. Just get some cream from the doctor. They never completely heal but they often disappear for months, if not years.

Have been having this problem as well.  Taking adderrall and it is causing dehydration > constipation > bloody stools.  need to up your intake of water throughout the day, on adderall.  Most people in the US now walk around in a state of dehydration 24/7;  Well, it's worst with Adderrall.  The problem for me is that I do not have the "desire" to drink water, so I have to remind myself to do so.  Causes me dry eyes, dry mouth, and other symptoms.  Have lately been carrying around a large water bottle and drinking it throughout the day, understanding that I absolutely have to drink at least 3 full bottles through out the day.  this isn't saying that other drinks like soda are neccessarily off limits--just make sure you get the water in too.

I have been taking Adderall for 2 years now ! And have noticed blood spotting from first week of use. But like most college students I am under lots of stress so I tried taking in more fiber and drink much more water ( it helped in the long run). But you must avoid alcohol and spices food. Because I noticed that Adderall just dry's the fecal matter with causes the rupture of the rectum on exit. So drink more water, eat more fiber and avoid alcohol and spices foods . <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have had this problem for roughly 6 months now. been on adderall for 4 years or so. grab some metamucil and a couple glasses of water before breakfast. clean up your diet. I notice a large amount of dripping blood sometimes. this due to a tear and though it isn't super serious, it shouldn't go overlooked.

This helped a lot thank you :) I take Aderall and Nuvigil for my Narcolepsy, Nuvigl's biggest side-affect on me is mild constipation but last night I was tired and when I went to the bathroom, not only did it bleed in the toilet a little, I had a good amount when I wiped. But I hope this helps :)

Hello! I also seem to have developed these symptoms as well as green and sometimes mucusy stools? I've had slight stomach problems in the past and it was diagnosed as a mild allergic reaction to wheat but now I'm wondering if its not something worse. My docs never availible either so the soonest I can see him is in two weeks. >:[ I stopped taking it two days ago but haven't seen any improvement. I only notice slight pain during bowel movements because I have a tear and am trying to treat it with excess fiber but my stool is still green. :/ is this crazy death serious? should I find another doctor to see me sooner? Every time I get a random doctor they suck so bad and just throw a script at me and push me out the door. I dunno. Anyone else have the green issue?

A friend was taking adderall unprescribed in april, not in high doses, but somewhat regularly, and he was in the hospital for two weeks with intestinal bleeding for two weeks, in which time he needed 8 blood transfusions. They had no other explanation for it other than a supremely rare genetic disorder in which a intestinal wall grows too thin and blood flows out from there, but was highly improbable since he hadn't experienced any kind of internal bleeding previously. He stayed clear of the adderall after that, no problems. Not really an answer, but I thought it was worth sharing.

Yes I'm taking adderall as well. And I'm bleeding bright red blood as well. I'm worried it's cancer. I'm not taking it anymore ether. I don't trust any prescription drug anymore after what I found out about the gov poisoning all the food and vaccinations with poisons that attack your body. Look up infowars / vaccinations. And poisons in our food and medication.

I am only 21 and have been taking Adderall for over a year now. I have just recently experienced blood in my stool, and like everybody else, it was bright red. When you take Adderall, your stools become more constant in the beginning and over time harden. I have gathered from researching and common sense that the stools must be so hard that they tear the lining of the anus, an anal fissure. I agree with other posts on here that drinking more WATER and eating more FIBER or taking fiber supplements is key. This doesn't seem like it is too serious of a problem. (it isn't listed as a serious side effect or a side effect at all on any website) Don't freak out; just treat your body right.
