I would like to know something more about adenoid-cystic-carcenoma. What is this? Are there any survivors?
Adenoid-cystic-carcenoma, aka ACC, is a rare form of caner. It usually occurs in areas of head (eyes, neck ...)- in areas of the salivary glands but not necessary. It can also occur in breasts or any other part of body. Adenoid-cystic-carcenoma is usually slow growing, but the growth can be relentless. It can spread to other parts, like live, lungs.
People with Adenoid-cystic-carcenoma can survive for some years. Trials say that 89 % survive in first 5 years, but less than 40 % more than 15 years.
I was diagnosed with ACC in 1996 and had surgery around my left salivary gland. After surgery my oncologist gave me 5 years, but not 10! Underwent 33 sessions of radiation and became cancer free for 13 years. I have a hole in my palate and have to wear an obterator to make up for the teeth lost in the surgery. Have lived a normal full life all these years, until last year when carcenoma was discovered behind my front teeth. This is a slow moving cancer which hopefully will leave me be for some years. There is no chemo for this and I have already had maximum radiation so no more can be performed!
But, YES, there is life after ACC!!

What is the treatment for adenoid cystic carcinoma?
