My husband was diagnosed with ADD and Tourette's around 3 months ago. He was placed on Vyvance for his ADD and was told is was very similar to Adderall XR. This medication helped his ADD tremendously but brought his sniffing, swallowing, and neck movement tics out extremely much. He was then placed on Keppra and worked his way up to 2000mg. He is miserable. He is not experiencing any of the psychosis or hallucinations many people have on the Keppra but is having a really hard time coping with the other side effects he is experiencing. He basically is a shell of who he used to be. He is down to 1000mg a day, but after being on the medication for 3-4 weeks now, there has been no improvement with the Keppra. The doctor has told him to stay on it, but my husband wants to stop the medicine anyways. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can tell my husband to do? Any other medications or experiences that you could suggest? These are all things he has struggled with since he was young, but no one helped he deal with them then, and as an adult, dealing with all of it at once is really hard for him....(and me :/) Thanks!
Hey there,

I'm 23 and have had tourettes since the age of seven, as you already know it comes as a package, a two for the price of one, and I aslo have ADD.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, you rhusband must just take it easy. I was put on medications as a child and they turned me into a zombie as well, so I stopped them. I just learned to accept all of it. I don't know how bad your husband's tics are, mine aren't terrible, I sniff, blink, do jaw movements a lot, move my neck, crack my back when I walk...
This doesn not stop me in any way to lead a normal life, sure I feel physically tired at night sometimes but that's not a problem. There's no point trying to stop them because you can't really. If he is really toubled by them, hypnosis can help to a certain extent, and relaxation also.
ADD isn't necessarilly a problem either, I just ask people to repeat themselves more because I don't know what they are on about.
Someone will ask me to do something, then forget was I was supposed to do when I'm about to start...
It can be annoying for other people it's true, I drove my mum crazy on many occasion. I find that taking it with a sense of humour helps a lot. Taking it seriously just makes it worse.
I also found that a lot of people are understanding, once you told them what you have they are fine with it and don't even notice anything on the long term.
Hope this helped.
