Hi, I'm suffering from chronical migraines. Migraine attacks have become more frequent in the last few days preventing me from doing any kind of useful work. My doctor has told me to use ibuprofen in case of these kind of onsets of migraines. I use ibuprofen when this usually happens but in this case it doesn’t seem to work. I have heard from my pharmacist that there’s a new kind of drug called Vicoprophen, and that it is supposed to be stronger than ibuprofen. Should I use this medicine, are there any known dangerous side effects?
Vicoprophen is a brand name used by Knoll Pharmaceuticals company for marketing their combination of ibuprofen and hydrocodone. It is used to treat acute pain that lasts not more than 10 days. It should be more effective than ibuprofen itself, since it incorporates hydrocodone that also has strong analgesic properties. You shouldn’t take Vicoprophen if you use other anti inflammatory non steroid based drugs like aspirin and aspirin its derivates like paracetamol, if you use lithium, oral diabetes regulating medicines, medicines for regulation of high blood pressure, blood thinning medicines like warfarin, also you shouldn’t take alcohol with Vicoprophen because it causes drowsiness and used with alcohol that effect increases. Possible side effects include: signs of bleeding, drowsiness, confusion, chills, chest pain, changes in heart beat and the amount of urine passed, stomach ache etc. Since you didn’t write your complete disease history I think it’s the best that you talk to your doctor before taking Vicoprophen, to prevent possible unwanted effects.
