I'm 16 and a week ago I lost my virginity to my boyfriend. I bled a little, assumed to be my hymen ripping. We had sex again a few days later and there was a lot more blood. The blood only lasted for 30 minutes or so and there was no pain. The next day he fingered me and there was a good amount of blood, once again with no pain, but only lasted for 15 minutes or so. Why is this happening?
Hi Sarah,
You can bleed after the first time.
More likely you are getting more relaxed and your partner is as well. He may be penetrating you more deeply.
The tissue in your vagina are very vascular, lots of blood vessels. It is very easy for them to bleed.
For now you might consider using some extra lube. It may help reduce any trauma to the tissues.
It's not uncommon that you are bleeding.
Hope it helps.
Yes I think you're OK. Give your body some time to get used to having sex.
Give it a few days if you want.
Your hymen may not have been completely torn. There can also just be some trauma to the vagina from having a penis in you - the vagina stretching can cause small tears, as can thrusting.
It's normal and OK. Other than being "messy" it isn't a problem or that unusual.
Hope it helps.
Sarah, no need to be scared. The tissue in your vagina has lots of small blood vessels. They tear easily.
As you start having sex more often the tissues will "toughen up." Just tell him to be gentle for now.

These are capillaries, very tiny vessels. They tear easily. It really doesn't take much to cause bleeding. Rough fingering can do it. Repeated sex can cause it. There may still be remnants from your hymen.
Can it be something serious, yes. I'm assuming you're probably in your teens or early 20's so that tends to rule out most serious complications. STD's can cause bleeding too, but once again, you said it was your first intercourse.
Give your body some time to recover fully from the first sex. If there was a scab, from the hymen for example, it can be torn off just as easily as one on your arm.
Without an internal exam we can only guess.
It may/may not happen again.
Give your body some time to recover and try again.
