I've got the same problem. It started ten years ago after getting mighty wasted one night. The next day, after throwing up a few times, bile started coming up. For several years this would happen sporadically and without any seeming pattern, but the symptoms are the same: Wake up feeling not too bad, perhaps a headache; after an hour start vomitting; then vomit at half hour intervals for the next ten hours. Any food (including water and medicine) is immediately vomitted. If I was lucky and noticed it first thing in the morning, I could prevent the nausea with a perchlorperazine pill (which would stay down in that hour or so before the nausea started). Other than that, the only thing to do is lie down and get ready to be sick for twelve hours. For the last several years this happens after a drop of alcohol (like what's not advertised in food you eat, including a stout muffin or tiramisu). So now I have to be vigilant in avoiding alcohol. _[removed]_

It's really nice to know I'm not alone, but I am with my friends and it sucks. I'm 28 and can't even have a couple of glasses of wine with my husband without worrying about whether i'll puke my guts out the next morning. they need to make a pill for this. For now I pound ranitidine, which is a generic acid reducer, and it seems to help sometimes. other times, it doesn't do a thing.

wow i have this exact problem and it has been bugging me for years! i used to be able to drink like the rest of 'em but now even if i only have some wine, the next day i am so so sooo sick - hugging the bowl and vomiting bile with the worst headache you could ever imagine - people make fun of my bad hangovers but it is way beyond a hangover. i usually feel like i am going to die. i wish i knew why my body was reacting this way??

now, the thing with me is that i'm currently 28 and drank a whole lot when in college and would be fine the next morning. The last three years or so, it's been the same case as all the above, if i so much as have just a glass of wine i'll puke my guts out the next morning. I thought it was just me and my friends even started thinking there's something seriously wrong with me coz it didn't happen to any of them.

Now i'm an expert at my 'throw up' pattern on the morning after having drank. It lasts about 6 hours on average for me, and with a frequency of running to the loo every 20 minutes to throw up. I found it hilarious that one guy said he sleeps with a bucket next to him....because on weekends when my roomies are away i do the same because it's just too much effort feeling like my insides are struggling to come out of my throat...lol!

So i usually drink water because it means i throw up more and the last final time is always yellow and bitter and hurts like hell. And after that i don't throw up again. I wish someone could tell me whats wrong and where this problem began because i just don't get it anymore.

Just last week i was at a friends house and she offered me a 30 something year old whiskey and i kept leaving the room to throw out my portions because i knew i'd be sick the next morning....what a waste!

hi all!

same type deal with me. i'm 23 and was able to drink and drink through high school and college. now, not at all. about 3 months ago, i started experiencing terrible hangovers. very similar to all of yours. then i noticed a general sense of nausea sometimes after eating and sometimes just randomly throughout a normal day. i went to my dr. who ordered a UGI (upper gastro-intestinal) scan which showed i had severe reflux. i was placed on prevacid, but continued to feel a general sense of nausea on some days and terrible vomiting spells mornings after drinking. i went back to the dr. and she ordered a HIDA-scan to check my gallbladder. they found no stones, but it was low-functioning at 20%. i really couldn't handle the way i was feeling and the surgeon agreed that i should have my gallbladder out. i had it out about a month ago, and generally i have felt better. but, still occasionally feel nauseated and sometimes throw up. i tested drinking for the first time on halloween. i had about 5 beers over the course of 6 hrs - which is still significantly less than i used to drink. did not feel drunk, but woke up with a terrible headache. after about an hour, i began throwing up yellow bile. uhhh, it was terrible - all day i couldn't move except to vomit.

i'm taking protonix now for my reflux, but now i am convinced after doing some reading that i have BILE reflux. especially after seeing how much bile i was throwing up. has anyone else looked into bile reflux. i'm heading back to the doctor this week. i will let you all know. it's so terrible i know - i am basically a hermit now and don't get out much. i've also considered looking into acupunture. i'll keep you all posted.

Well same for me.

I started drinking around 15, and by 16 I was really drinking a lot, without never vomiting and without the hangovers. I could easyly drink a bottle of Vodka by then and get through it fine.

And now, it seems like my body just won't take any more alcohol. Well, I'm exagerating; I can still drink, but it's harder. Either I vomit during night, or I wake up fine and then get sick the whole day, without vomiting bile although. I remember this summer I had a really extreme week, like drinking a lot every night and no problems. Some weeks after, I drank some 20degree alcohol and vomited during the night and felt sick the whole day after. I felt so bad I literally couldn't dring any alcohol during one month.

Notice I'm also smoking - only when going out, but a lot - since this summer. Could it be related?

I see a lot of people with this problem, but no one has a valid explanation. Can't anyone tell what it is?

I've done the same thing ever since i started drinking last year. I'm fine when im drunk, i pass out fine, but then around 5 or 6 in the morning Ill wake up and be sick for hours. ill boot, sleep for a half hour, boot, and so on for hours, finally, I'll manage to get some crckers in my stomach and be ok. it is also usually yellow acid, which is NOT bile for me anyway, since my gallbladder was taken out a few months ago and my bile goes straight to my small intestines, and none of it gets to my stomach. It seems to have gotten worse sometimes after my GB removal, but better sometimes, its strange. I have a physical coming up soon, I plan on asking my doctor about it.

I have recently been having a similar problem. I'm 26 and had been drinking pretty regularly. Not getting drunk all the time but drinking a lot. The last couple of times I went out with my friends I have gotten drunk really easily and ended up getting really sick and blacking out. This last time I was sick for 2 days after and I had only had one mixed drink and two shots at the bar. I had been drinking before that but nothing more than what I usually drink. I have always been the one with the highest alcohol tolerance in my group of friends and now I'm the one getting sick and passing out before last call. I don't understand what's going on. I haven't changed my drinking habits at all, this just occurred suddenly. Since then I have stopped drinking all together. Getting that drunk is not fun and its kind of scary since I am usually able to handle my alcohol. o.O

Here i am, another person with symptoms just like the first post, wondering how to fix it. I'm 23, formerly a heavy party drinker, now unable to drink more than a single beer without feeling awful the next day. _[removed]_ if you know what could help. And I'll buy you a drink :-)

SAME thing with me.
im 20, and this has already been going on for 2 years. its terrible. if i ever go to sleep slightly drunk, i know the next morning ill wake up wanting to die. well, i usually wake up around like 6 am or earlier because i feel so miserable. im soo nauseous and i just know im gonna have to throw up, and ill just KEEP throwing up (bile eventually) until i can finally fall asleep(my only relief) and then hopefully sleep for an hour or two and wake up not having to throw up.
maybe it is some kid of reflux?
i also have issues if i drink orange juice on an empty stomach or supplements on an empty stomach, ill usually get nauseous and throw up.
but alcohol is by far the WORST!
if anyone knows the answer!pleaseeeeeeee tell me

It is such a relief to find this page. A few months ago i noticed that when I drank I would get drunk really easily. I also began to suffer from really extreme symptoms after just a few drinks...I didn't think it could be a hangover. I kept thinking that my drink had been spiked or that I had the flu. I never had a problem with alcohol before but one night I drank too much vodka and wound up with my head in the toilet, cold sweats and uncontrollable vomiting every hour for 24 hours. Worst experience of my life.

I'm currently in the throes of an episode at the moment and it's hard to describe how extremely horrible I find it. Sudden onset of nausea, vomiting doesn't even give much relief. I've been in bed all day and have forced myself to eat half a slice of toast. The really weird thing is that I didn't drink last night, I just smoked one cigarette. So I'm not touching alcohol or cigarettes or anything like that ever again. It's not worth it. I feel so awful. I really just want to understand more about what causes this because it is awful not to understand why my body reacts like this.

I have the exact same problem as everyone has listed above... Anyone find out anything more on this? I was told by my doctor(s) that I have acid reflux, but it seems to be way more than this. Also, I dont get like this after eating spicy foods, etc like people usually do with acid reflux, only after i drink alcohol. Does anyone know anything more?

Same with me :-( Happens 3-4 times a year. It seems it's not related to the quantity of alcohol; sometimes 3 beers are enough to cause it. The rest of times when I drink alcohol I have a normal hangover or no hangover at all. It first happened when I was 23 (8 years ago).
