I agree with the last post. And to Mastarm, this is a good example of how different causes can lead to the same simptoms. My post, 3 back, was referring to the Kindling effect (abrupt withdrawals increasing withdrawal symptoms). And the "cure" is tapering. This worked very well for me. I exercise and have a great diet, no acid reflux. However, if the cause is acid reflux, poor excercise, and poor diet, then tapering would have no effect at all. As with most health issues, it is a bit more complex than it appears, and such general symptoms can be caused by more than one thing.

I have a similar thing, I'm 24 and used to go out drinking all night, mixing drinks, doing shots 2 or 3 nights in a row and never have a hangover. Then about 4 years ago i gradually started getting really bad hangovers, much worse than my friends and they would get worse throughout the next day and would last until I went to sleep. When they got really bad I realised they are not hangovers, it's more like an intolerance. Unlike most of you I am often not physically sick the next day, though I am sometimes the night of the drinking even when I haven't had that much, but instead I feel nauseas every time I move, I can't think properly or move properly and the only way to describe it is if you imagine what it would feel like if some of your body/organs started shutting down. I feel better when I eat a hot carbish meal like McDonalds but that's only temporary, soon after I stop eating it comes back and carries on the rest of the day until I sleep.
Most people just tell me to stop drinking but it's hard when my friends invite me out I hate being the only one sober and as I am a shy person I always used to love alcohol for giving me a bit of confidence at work events etc.
Does anyone else suffer like this?

By the way, just to add to my previous post just above, last time I went out I had a big meal, went out and only had a few vodkas, drank LOADS of water when I got home, then I vomited (not intentionally!), so thought it must be out of my sytem, drank lots more water and ate more food just to be sure I couldn't be ill the next day. And I was still so ill and I had hardly drank anything and thought if I had vomited how was it still in my system!

I have been vomiting yellow liquid several times a week upon awakening.
For the longest time I thought it was food allergies, acid reflux and or gall bladder.
At almost fifty, I am not a young drinker, but someone who exercises, eats healthy and almost always has a glass or two of red wine with dinner. Blaming food never worked as it was inconsistent, but realizing it isprobably the wine I am testing that theory. Four days ago I ate a rich soup for dinner and vomited the next morning, last night I ate the leftovers without wine and am fine today. If it is the wine, I am switching to tea! (apologies for the typos, my iPad is having issues!)
Cheers,
Jp

i had pancreatitis a few years ago.. it is the most pain i have expierenced in my life. every particle and cel in your body has sharp pain. the pancreas excretes acid into the blood stream instead of the stomach.. you are digesting your vains from the inside out... go to the ER fast and as them for a bloodtest for Amolase and Lipase... not sure the spelling. but they will put in many IVs and turn up the focet to delute the enzymes in your blood.. hope you dont die...

Honey. This sounds like Pancreatitis! I was in the hospital for a week for it and it was hell. Very painful and the drugs/ alcohol detox made me crazy. My boyfriend sat by my side the whole time thinking I was going to dye. I actually ripped my IV out twice trying to escape. I don't remember most of the week I was there because I was so delusional, but I would recommend not drinking for like a year or so, And once you get pancreatitis you can get it again with just one drink. I'm 30 and started drinking at about 15. I quit after the hospital, but recently started again and threw up bile this morning. I'm scared for my life and seeking treatment for emotional issues to help me through this. It sucks. It sucks bad , but I don't want to die from a drink. Life is too good!

Alcohol withdrawal is caused by neurotransmitter rebound. When alcohol suppresses the action of a neurotransmitter system over a long period of time the neurotransmitter system adapts by working harder and harder to overcome the effect of the alcohol and to try and function at normal levels in spite of the presence of the alcohol. When the alcohol is suddenly removed from the body the neurotransmitter system still continues to function far in excess of normal levels. Since the alcohol is no longer present to suppress the effects of this hyperactivity, what we now see are effects which are precisely the opposite of those caused by alcohol. It is -the neurotransmitter system goes flying off in the opposite direction.
The main neurotransmitter system involved in alcohol withdrawal is the GABA system. Alcohol's effect on the GABA system leads to relaxation, sleep, calm, and the soothing of panic. When alcohol is suddenly removed from the brain then the neurotransmitter rebound in the GABA system leads to insomnia, nightmares, hallucinations, anxiety, panic, muscle cramps, and seizures. Benzodiazepines affect the GABA system in much the same way as alcohol does and this is why benzodiazepine withdrawal is also life-threatening.I have this problem about 2 years ,im a 23 and today the only way is relamnium or somthing like that .ihad no problem with my health i play professional basketball and drink not to much, but sometimes i vomiting like crazy when i drunk ,but one pill realnium or clozepam and everything is fine :)

Ay. Nice post but this is where a little information is a dangerous thing. Chronic alcohol drinkers experience changes that lead to decreased tolerance, a tendency toward acidosis, and increased withdrawal symptoms. Do a little more research. This forum is not the place for research, it is a good place for sharing stories and experiences but this topic is well studied and there are many journal articles that document the changes chronic alcohol consumption can present over time. So, Guest 4, perhaps your experience is obviously one who has not gone through what many other posts describe. Just because it "does not make sense" to you does not mean that it wrong. The body is complex, but there is a mechanism for everything. Check out the studies and journal case reports.

Until you find an answer, find a little pot—not a big deal even though people make it out to be some terrible thing (they've just forgotten about prohibition and how alcohol used to be socially damned as well). Pot is just a different kind of social release, and if it's killing you to watch your friends drink without you, then pot could be your answer. Having harmless social experiences on pot could quell your desire to drink altogether. I'm not advocating you smoke all the time, just every so often, use your own judgement.

not sure if you will get this post (hence over a year ago) but after reading all the other posts.....your symptoms are EXACTLY like mine! both ends and only after a little bit of alcohol and NOT consistent! I have tried to play around and stick to just white wine, or just rum, etc. (I have never cared for the taste of beer, so never drink that) I have 102 pounds. I am now 47 years old and never been a big drinker. But now, I am scared to have a single glass of wine. I went to a concert on a Wednedsay night (had to drive carpool early, etc) Had 2 pomegranit martinis with dinner at 6:00.....had a drink during the concert at maybe 9:00.....was at home in bed by 12:00......3 drinks over three hours and was sooooo sick....could not even get out of bed! I dont get it! This has happened about 10 times over the past 3 years.....do you still have episodes? did you give up drinking all together? any updates?!?!?

i have a solution to all your problems though it may not be what your looking for here it is. the only sure way to cure intolerance is to NEVER STOP DRINKING!!!! getting sick like that is your bodys way of telling you to stop. you must take into concideration that alcohol is a poison and a drug and f**k anybody that says its not. if you over do it bad things will happen. fact the only two withdrawls people can die from are alcohol and benzos. if you dont know what withdrawls are take my cure for intolerance then stop drinking and you will find out the hard way.

First of all, I am not a medical expert, but I can give you an answer other than "quit drinking". I am 26 and started violently throwing up every morning after I drank about 2 years ago. Whether I had 2 drinks or 10, same affect in the morning, followed by at least a 24 hour hangover. I would go to bed, not even drunk, and wake up bloated immediately needing a bowel movement, followed by an hour or so of trying not to throw up, and then finally not being able to fight it anymore I would throw up everything in my stomach (and i mean everything). I visited multiple websites for years looking for an answer. Too embarrassed to go to my doctor with an issue this silly I was desperate and willing to try anything. My sister in law was diagnosed with Celiac disease, and explained to me how she now eats gluten free. Before I go on, I consider myself a country boy who has never been on a diet, and never planned on trying any kind of diet. But I started thinking... beer is primarily made from wheat, barley, or rye, and many liquors have these products in them as well. So, desperate for a solution to not being able to drink with my buds, I tried a gluten free diet. I cut out all gluten, after about a week I tried drinking a couple gluten free beers. No issues the next day. The next weekend I drank about 7 or 8 gluten free beers in one night... wake up the next morning, no hangover at all!!!! Finally, I figured I would push it, dont remember the occasion but out with some friends drank Maker's Mark and Gingers all night, as well as a few shots...... NO ISSUES!!!! I am no doctor, but before I went gluten free, I couldn't drink any alcohol with out paying for it the next day, now Gluten Free I am free to enjoy one of my favorite past times. If your body has an allergy to gluten, it makes since that your stomach will not digest it, and get rid of it. I have never posted on a blog, actually never really cared what other people post, but I just wish someone would have told me this years ago.... I could have avoided a lot of terrible mornings. I made a mistake this week and drank a few beers I thought were gluten free... guess what??? Throw up session the next day. First time in 6 months I have had that issue, and I know exactly why it happened. Anyways, it may not help everyone, and if I push it, i still have a generic hangover just not the violent vomiting sessions I have had in the past. Hope this helps someone! -Jake

Hi,
I am a 23 year old college student and I used to be like that. I used to drink non stop and had a crazy tolerance to alcohol. Now if I get drunk the next day is a full day of flue like systems. I usually will vomit 1-6 times the day after and won't get anything down ): Once it was so bad I literally couldn't get up from my bed and vomited in a bucket over 18 times in one day. My conclusion is that I can't tolerate most blends (Beer is way too hard on my stomach, Wine can be to complex if I have more than two glasses.) Pretty much now I stick to Rum and Vodka. As bad as this sounds My conclusion is that Alcohol is a drug...and try to avoid it if you are having hell like hangovers (:
