I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!! I had my GB removed a year ago. After 2 drinks I am very drunk. I am also violently sick, have upset stomach and bad cramps.

I'm now giving up alcohol completely!

Just to add a good news story, I had mine out 8 days ago and last night I had 6 large bud lights and I felt fine last night and feel fine today! So it might not be so bad for everyone. These threads had me terrified to try a drink. Good luck!

I thought I was tripping. I had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago. Everyone I drink no matter if it's 2 or more shots I have a bad hangover which literally last the entire day. I can honestly say I think my drinking days are over cuz this pain just ain't worth it.

Similar to you guys, I got my gallbladder removed during this coronavirus pandemic. I tried to relax through this confinement with a couple of drinks during the day, but I'm getting sick after few drinks, even with beer. It is frustrating! My brother got gallbladder removed 3 years ago and he never experienced such reaction ... What's going on?

i’m so happy to have found this thread, i’ve only gotten drunk twice since my gb removal about two months ago and each time it is a nightmare the next day. constant throwing up, diarrhea, and just awful nausea. on top of it all i can’t eat or drink anything without it coming right back up, and once that’s cleared i’m still seemingly trying to force more out of my body, until i’m heaving up yellow bile. even trying to sleep is terrible because i close my eyes and get dizzy and sick. it really feels like i’m dying and after the second time (today) i’ve realized i probably shouldn’t drink anymore. it sucks bc i’m only 22 but i’m not super bummed about it. what really gets to me is the total lack of interest in food, even on normal days. nothing is appealing to me and if i could i would just go without. feels like i got the short end of the stick coming out of this procedure. i’m happy the pain is gone and i’m no longer having attacks but at the cost of no longer being able to enjoy a lot of things, like food and alcohol.
i just needed to vent, it’s really getting to me today but again finding this thread was comforting. i hope all of you are living your best lives :)

Just coming onto the 3rd week after the cholecystectomy and still grappling with some of the GI symptoms, mostly related to fat digestion. Too much fat in a meal and lots of diarrhea and nausea the next day. The funny thing is, I've found that alcohol helps. As in if I have some alcohol with a meal, I don't feel horribly nauseous at about 11am in the morning; if I'm completely dry, I do. Now, I've never been a huge drinker, but I had about 4 drinks (different alcohols) at a friend's birthday yesterday (and also had some nuts, chicken with skin and a slice of birthday cake) but was fine today. So now, I'm trying to have abt half a glass of wine or sake a day, just to keep my digestive system ticking over! Looks like everyone's system is really different!

I signed up just to contribute to this thread!

I've been having the exact same issue as all of you with a slight difference. I could never really handle a lot of alcohol (six beer would be enough to push me into toilet territory). But nowhere near this extent.

Since the surgery, 10 months ago, any time I have more than a very low and finite number of drinks (I think about two) this horrible nausea kicks off. The nausea just sits there until and if I throw up. If I don't throw up and I can sleep through the night it will be gone by the morning. But it's torture when I can't get to sleep and I'm waiting to vomit just so that I can sleep and feel better.

Beer seems to be the worst offender. Followed by wine. Spirits seem to be relatively okay. I've been diagnosed with dyspepsia since the operation (and gastritis) and I wonder if it might be a simple volume issue. It feels to me as if liquids aren't moving through my system and are getting stuck somewhere along the way. Can anybody relate?

Anyway it's awful. I will wait four weeks without drinking feel a lot better and then hope that things will be different. I feel totally fine after having the beer or two. And then an hour or two later things just turn quickly south and the nausea kicks in.

No idea what the cause could be but seems to be relatively common. Like most of you I was told that the operation was a nothing op and that I would be totally fine afterwards. Nothing could be further from the truth. My health problems have multiplied ten fold.

Here's my theory folks.

So many of us are saying "we could never tolerate alcohol that well but since the op it's a lot worse."

But if you think about it, that makes sense (so long as the problem with alcohol is related to poor gallbladder function).

Before the op, lets's say that our gallbladder was at 30%. For those of us who have had it removed it's now at 0%! So it's only logical that if it were causing issues that those issues would be the same but worth with it removed.

Hi all. I had my gall bladder removed 16 years ago. Had terrible sickness on and off, this was about 4 years later when i was around 20 years old. I was eating healthy at the time but think i may have had a few days drinking with friends. I was constantly being told i had heartburn/indigestion but medication for this was making me sick too. After months of hospital visits, they found I had gasritis which is inflammation if the stomach. I had been fine again up till about 5 years ago when i had been celebrating my anniversary and spent the next day being sick. I was hospitalised in 2019 for gasritis again when i was on holiday on our last day in tenerife (day 10) where I had been eating out a lot and drinking so this took it's toll. I also had terrible diarrhea so couldn't leave until the sickness and diarrhea stopped. 2 days ago i went to a friend's and she was making me drinks. I spent most of yesterday throwing up and on the loo. Moral of the story... Alcohol is bad. I mostly got away with drinking so carried on as i very rarely go mad on a night out but it's just not worth it. Health is more important and you can have fun sobor. Look after yourselves, i don't want tondrink anymore!!! If you are gonna drink, make sure you have travel insurance! I had to pay £2000 just to be seen in hospital, luckily my insurance refunded me but i had to have that money available in the first place and it is not nice being stuck in a foreign hospital xx
