My father has several food allergies, but I only have one (penicillin) to speak of. Am I prone to getting allergies later in life because of my family? Basically, do allergies run in the family?
One would logically expect a correlation between family history and the development of allergy. However, studies have shown that the way children were brought up often determines whether they will develop certain allergies. For example, children who are allowed to freely play in the outdoors and get themselves "dirty" are actually less likely to develop allergies later in life than children who are told by their parents to stay clean.

You usually develop allergies when you are young. But some can come when you are older. For example if a person is bitten by the bee several times it can get allergic to bee after the lest bite.
And the hoseclamps is right, the children that play in the dirt are likely to be less allergic to stuff. You might develop some allergies when you are older, but I don't think that it runs in through the family.
