I was prescribed Amoxicilin to treat my 2 year olds swallon ear, sore throat and runny nose. How long is too long to take this drug? Will iot kill her long lasting cold? I have also given some to my 7 months old daughter for her cold. After research on line it suggests Amoxicilin is only for ear infections and not the cold. Have I casued any harm to my youngest daughter?
Do not give your 7 month old the Amoxicillin unless a doctor prescribes it. You do not know the correct dose for a 7 month old.

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic. It will not help a cold. Colds are caused by viruses. Amoxicillin is used to treat an infection, such as an ear infection.

Follow the directions and make sure your daughter takes the Amoxicillin EXACTLY as prescribed. It should tell you how long to take the medicine but in most cases it would be until finished (empty bottle). Even if your daughter feels better it is IMPORTANT that you continue to give her the medicine until finished. If you don't the infection won't clear and may become resistant to the current medicine -- not good.

That's another reason not to share medicines. Your 2 year old needs ALL this medicine to help her. If your 7 month old has a cold, then check with their pediatrician.

Hope it helps.
