I'm a healthy 21 year old female. I started experiencing this in high school, maybe 5 years ago. It usually happens in the middle of the night, and it wakes me up. I noticed it only happens when I dream about sexual intercourse or sometimes even just sexual contact. It lasts about 30 seconds. I'm glad I'm not alone.

I was 15 when I first got this pain and oh my god! I'm 44 now and I've had it regularly, about once every 4 months since. It lasts about 25 mins for me stArting on the left side of my 'ring' , then moving to the right side.
To ease the pain I've figured that if I lie in my front and try and curve my back upwards as much as possible it helps cut off the pain. But when the pain does finally ease off its like heaven on earth. The pain I get is so intense its unreal, like I'm going to faint. I heard that drinking water helps, like its a condition due to dehydration - but not sure... D

Valium or a muscle relaxant is key too... I take those every night for anxiety, but it still does not stop the evil balloon knot cramps.

These things are worst than kidney stones... Worst part is when they come directly after a mind blowing nut... Then my ass hurts. I thought it was prostrate relays but it's all pucker hole muscles and maybe taint related too...

I just wish it would go away and never come back...

Ok off the toilet now and back to bed. :) good luck peeps!

I get this a couple of times each month out of no where. sometimes it comes on during the night sometimes i get it when having a poo if i force it out too quickly and often i get it after sex. As weird as it sounds i found that putting a finger up my hole and sort of massaging the inside helps relief pain almost instantly.

I'm a female suffering from this on occasion. Mostly after quick orgasim but tonight it happened with no sex. I try and receive myself. Gone after 20 minutes or so. But really painful. What is this? Dehydration? What?

Try this method to quickly stop this rectal muscle spasm:
"Pull" the anus as high into the body cavity as you can. Use all the muscle strength that you possibly can, and when you can't pull it any higher -- relax for just a split second and then do it again. And again. It usually takes me about two very long minutes to stop the pain but it sure beats suffering for half an hour. I have literally been on the bathroom floor screaming in pain-- and all the warm baths and touching the toes and other methods just didn't help me. Hope this helps someone out there!! Also-- I am a woman so I don't know if this would work on man but it is worth a shot!

Wow. This is more common than i thought, and sorry to hear people have suffered with this pain in the arse for so long.
I am a woman 30 years old and have only recently (last three months) felt this pain. Mine seems to be linked to my femme bits, and it comes on a bit when i have intense clitorial stimulation and lasts up to 10 min, or when it's that time of the month.... it is double the strength of pain and can strike anytime, kind of like an ice cold sword being shoved up my bum. It's worse than labour pains and embarrassing when it happens out in public.
Relaxing seems to make it shorter but nothing prevents it.
Hope we find an answer to what it is and how to stop it.

This is my interpretation of what is going on for me, a woman, who began experiencing this with menopause. I believe every instance where I have this is one where I am sexually turned on, even though this can happen so rapidly that I can barely note it (and also while dreaming): The experience of orgasm involves the rapid contraction, or "spasming" of muscles in the vagina. This can also spread to the anus. I'm dry and can't manage more than a micro-second of an organism any longer, so I haven't been experimenting much, but it seemed to me that I was able to avoid the anus involvement by focusing on keeping the sensation in the front and not in the back while having sex. Perhaps this is what some people mean by relaxing the anus during sex. I also agree with the other poster that the best remedy is to CONTRACT the anus if you are in pain. Hold it in. Makes the pain less and it go away faster.

I just looked up the phrase another poster used: proctalgia fugax. Mostly useless info about it, but here is a paper suggesting that hemorrhoid treatment might fix it.

I'm a 68 yr old woman. For the last year I've had unbearable pain after orgasm. My anal muscles go into spasm. The pain lasts for around 1 to 2 hours. I can get some small relief by sitting on the toilet and pushing. I feel like I'm passing a boulder. Nothing I take helps. Because of this I've decided to give up having an orgasm altogether. It makes me sad, but I can't stand the pain anymore.

Healthy 28 yo male here, currently dealing with this. In the past I used to take ibuprofen and Tylenol to ease the pain but I took an aspirin not half an hour before it started. Going for about an hour now and praying to God that it eases up soon. If this is as common as they say it is, you'd think there'd be more research on it. Talk about a huge market for some pharmacology company.

Marijuana. Pain gone, nausea gone, headache gone, cramps gone -- within seconds of smoking. I'd say under 30.

Hey old post here, but thought I'd add to it. I'm 47 and I get this too, have ever since I can remember. It hurts so badly it makes me want to throw up. I'm getting flaring up a bit now as I had a flare up from IBS, both of which are rare for me. Usually it's post orgasm and lasts 5 minutes or so, but it stays sore for a while. I think you kinda just have to suffer through it.
