Has anyone had annual fissure surgery? I had it about 8 mo ago and the only concern I have now is that I still have the burning and itching around the anal area, my hemmirodes were removed also with that surgery, but they weren't that bad. I had three anal fissures and it was the most painful surgery I have ever had. I have been back for post op visits to this doctor and he keeps telling me that all is well and they are healing nicely. He suggested that I use Lamasil or some creams like that that are normally used for Jock Itch. Right now I have went back to using Cortizone ointment. I am at a lose as to what to do. I am getting no relief. It is worse when I get hot and sweaty from exercise or just being hot. I live in Texas so the heat is real bad right now. I also use a medicated powder and where cotton underwear ( which I hate). I am thinking I should go to my gynocologist or another proctologist to see what is going on. Just looking for some relief.
Thanks

Hi Michele: Some doctors say not to use anything!! Which I personally don't agree with! Also please don't use any powder down there OK, there are MAJOR studies that have taken place showing a HUGE increase in Uterine Cancer when the Talc gets into the vaginal cavity!
One GREAT thing for pain and itchiness is what I and others have used, Get ahold of some TUCS pads - they are in a pot! Put them in the freezer tillt he witch hazel is frozen. Place a couple of them on the itchy site, and whear a pantiliner for when the witch hazel melts! You can use these to cleanse your bottom too! This is the hardest place to keep clean! I used a squirt bottle of Warm or cold water and the cold water REALLY helped with inflamation and itchiness! Some on here say not to use Hydrogen Peroxide, but it really helped myself and others. By putting 2 tablespoon in a squirt bottle! And wash the area! It kills bacteria etc.
Use unscented products for washing your clothes, and try to air dry the area as much as possible! I know you don't like wearing cotton underwear, but it's a MUST, if you wear nylon, your bottom can't breathe, and it causes MAJOR problems! Don't wear tight clothing and try not to have any seam tough your anus! Lidocaine is a great anti itch cream, EMLA is too - BUT I'm not too sure if that can be used on your bottom! I know other people on this site have used Lidocaine!
Have you had children? If so all of this could be from the birth as well! Many of us on here had quite the ordeals giving birth and have vaginal and rectal problems because of it!
Keeping the area clean and cool is your best bet for releif, sometimes you can use a pantyliner squirted with water or cheap witch hazel and freeze that and wear that too! Witch Hazle is a GREAT anti inflamatory and cleaner!
If you need anymore help or would like more people to give you ideas, you can go to the top of this screen punch in SEARCH and search for my screen name bambi27 and you will see ALL the topics I am a Supporter too! There you will find other conversations about what myself and others have used to get us all through this time period! It WILL get easier I promise! Good luck and health to you!

Thank you so much for the information, I do use the powder, I have had a hysterectomy years ago, so I will continue to use it only when it is so hot here. I only put it on my bottom, but the frozen witch hazel panty liners is a good idea too. Thanks so much. And I haven't tried Lidocaine or EMLA, what is EMLA?
Thanks again,
Michele

Hi Michele: EMLA is a skin numbing cream! I used it after my gynecologist suggested it, due to problems from my children being born! I think you have to have a perscription for this though - if I remember rightly! Lidocaine you don't need one, and many on here have said it works great! The witch hazel is WONDERFUL!!! And white vinegar in a squirt bottle with cold water is Also great for itchiness! I remember as a little girl growing up in England, there's this plant called Nettles! IF you fall in that you will be covered by a rash!!! It is AWFUL! So my mom used to dab on white vinegar! It is the best for that too - put due to it being on your anus, use it distilled with more cold water! I would suggest about 2 tablespoons of vinegar and the rest cold water for the squirt bottle! It also kills any bacteria! Vinegar is a GREAT product! And I belive in using as much natural products as possible! Good luck and health Michele!
