I'm here because I Googled this topic. Recently I started drinking whey protein shakes before or after working out. I have noticed that later on in the day I'm not myself and can be annoyed really easy by things or people. There has to be some connection to the shakes.

I find your story interesting & parallels my husband. It's interesting that your wife took the break & you were able to compare experiences. Very intriguing & I wish some of the protein consuming counterparts had more info about protein supplements & their effects on mood & anger. Thank you for sharing!

I have that book - she also states that dairy can be an anger trigger and whey is a dairy bi-product. So whey, in fact, can be very bad for people who are sensitive (I am one!)

I've tried soy ( seemingly bad for you), whey ( i think a have a problem with milk) and now vegetable based protein - pea and such it's a blend, all the same, i can eat nuts meats vegetables and fruit but protein supplements make me short of temper.
I'm 42, as you get older your no 2s get a bit softer and problematic. I've asked around and it seems like a common thing. Could be less stomach acid, i used to think I could eat anything. I started changing my diet and ended up on a really strict one. No soy, gluten or dairy. I 've got pretty good no 2s now and have way better moods and energy. I used to not be able to drink protein without passing it in my urine so I stayed away but now since I can digest things better I tried it again. I seemed to work great - except for the intense anger.
I eat three eggs, three tortillas, a smoothly containing one frozen pint of organic berries and cherries, a steamed sweet potato, one cup of frozen mango, half a banana , and a quarter of a avocado, a cup of almond coconut milk. that's breakfast
lunch is two apples and a cup of nuts , half black walnuts half English and a little sugar blend type with cashews almond pecans for taste
then a normal dinner
I eat this everyday with zero soy dairy or gluten so it's pretty much always the same, no issues with anger till I add the protein, its an ex pensive vegan sports blend, with none of the above allergens. there is some sort of correlation.
call it an adverse reaction, perhaps it's my natural disposition, and this diet starves the formation of it. not sure id it's gmo,s . I might not ever know, but I'm cutting out protein supplements of all types and seeing how I do for the next yr. definitely wanted to break some sh*t last night and I was screaming at the top of my lungs at my wife in front of my kids. it seemed uncharacteristically ramped up. it was normal bedtime stuff that might caused a small argument under our breath at worst but not like how it was. I've been taking the protein for about a week and was noticing I was shjort tempered at work.
sry for prly writing this. gotta go to work, here's my experience, with some details.

Good to read this as well! Joked with my wife that I feel like I have PMS, like I'm ready to jump out of my skin. Very angry, irritable, spaced out feeling at times and worst of all feeling depressed. I take Performance Inspired (PI) Mark Wahlberg's company. Has helped me build mass and recover so I can work out the next day, but I'm going to have to figure something else out...can't live this way. Seems like everything is cause and effect with your body :)

It is the supplements. My 25 year old son started taking bodybuilding supplements and it changed his personality. He gets enraged very easily. I even fear him at times and I know it is the body building supplements. Once in a while he stops taking them and then he returns to normal. The supplements are ruining him.

There is a definite connection. Protein shakes have turned my 25 year old son into a monster. He was such an easy child. Never got in trouble at school. He started lifting weights and drinking workout drinks and now he is a different person. I sometimes fear him. I'm worried he will hurt himself or others. Actually, I've already taken him to the emergency room once for slicing up his arm. I don't know what to do. He's ruining his life with these drinks.

Look into soy ingredients in any food you eat. You may notice that the anger reaction will follow any minimal or trace amount of soy listed as an ingredient.
