I find that Casein makes me super depressed, like I can barely go on living, so I avoid all dairy products like the plaque now - I know thats just me though.
Whey (which is the other protein in milk) I found gives me cramps and very dry itchy skin. Same goes for soya, which isnt really a food anyway.
Ive tried other protein powders but they either taste like poo or are too expensive. Egg white powder seems to be the answer and tastes nice

I have a major problem with milk proteins, and to a lesser degree soya protein. It only developed in the last 4 years, before that I would drink/eat about a pint of milk a day.
I found that both Whey and Casein make me very irritable and if I have more than a little of them I get angry and suicidally depressed.
It usually takes a week for them to clear my system then I start feeling much better.
I avoid whole milk and milk proteins but am ok with milk fat and milk sugar (lactose).
Try stopping all dairy products for a while and see how you feel then if you want reintroduce milk sugar / lactose - quite a few foods contain this or milk fat (such as my favourite bourneville dark chocolate).
Many products will say 'contains milk' but its worth looking in the ingredients to see what it actually is. Also unless a person is very allergic to milk then you can safely ignore the 'may contain milk' labels.

It would make sense as I was delivered usn muscle fuel anabolic by mistake a few months ago. It's ingredients contained all sorts of stuff so I thought i'd give it a try.
I've just this week finished the 4kg tub! I think this will be my last!

I've taken Whey Protein Powder Shakes in the past and have also found that it made me very aggressive so I stopped.
I'm due to go back to the Army soon so I've just started taking Maximuscle Promax High Protein Whey this monday and already I'm finding that I am very irritable, aggressive and snapping at things for no apparent reason.
Does anyone know what the cause of this may be ?
Many Thanks.

Whey protein powder can DEFINITELY cause anxiety.
I know people say it shouldn't and baffle you with science but it DEFINITELY does cause anxiety for me.
I used to be very big into weights around age 18 and got very in shape and muscly, however about a year after it I started getting palpitations and mild anxiety. Stopped training as hard and taking protein when i started work and anxiety subsided.
Years later started training harder and taking protein again and the anxiety came back in a big way. If I lay off protein for a week it subsides but if I have protein it comes back as regularly as clockwork.
PHD pure whey drinks were the worst for me and really send my anxiety soaring. I thought it could just be me so gave one to my friend at the gym and asked him how he felt a couple of hours after the drink without me telling him how I feel or why I gave him the drink and funnily enough he said he felt really anxious and on edge.
My girlfriend has noticed that protein causes me to be aggressive and short tempered and so has asked me not to take it anymore so I said I wouldn't. That being said as I go to the gym regularly sometimes I just 'feel' like a protein shake and have one. Within 5 minutes of her being with me if I see her later that day she will say to me, you're not yourself, have you had a protein shake!!
im writing this not to put people off but to tell them that it definitely does affect me and possibly some other people too.
It can make you aggressive, short tempered and snappy and a bit on edge and up tight.

Whey contains MILK (casein), I get anger in response to any dairy eaten in any amount including coffee with half and half, I finally figured this out. Im dairy free and calm, thank you Goddess!

I recently started taking taurine supplements. I have also been drinking a whey protein shake every day for about a year. The shake never caused any anger or irritability but recently (since being on taurine) I have been more confrontational at work, more irritated and less patient, and last week I really lost my temper at home which isn't like me at all. In desperation I found this forum and I can kinda confirm that for me, taurine appears to be causing this, but I am now also going to think seriously about dropping the whey protein.

Woah guys! All these replies sound just like what i'm experiencing. After taking Whey or Casein I become super irritable and snappy towards my family, coworkers, drivers on the road, pretty much everything. Definitely time to ditch the protein powders for me. If you're noticing a change in your mood after taking it, you're not crazy it's the protein suppliments!!! Thanks guys stay fit! :D

I believe there is a connection, between whey protein and aggression, it is happening to a friend's son at this moment, so I suggest you stop taking it and see if you return to normal. If that doesn't work (I would give it at least a month's trial) then it could be that your working out is causing hormonal changes, perhaps increased testosterone? But try abstaining from the protein first.
