So, it seems that there's a lot of people with similar issues on here, but I figure I'll post up as well to get a better idea of what's going on, since my symptoms are a little different.

Base information: 19, male, fairly overweight (which I'm working on taming and getting down to a healthy weight), only medicine I take is lisinopril (the cough started long before I started taking the medicine, so it's not the ACE-inhibitor cough that some people get).

About 7-8 years ago (was 12 or so), I suddenly felt something in my throat one day. After about a week, I was taken to the pediatrician, who took a look, felt around, didn't find anything, diagnosed it as post-nasal drip from alergies. Kept asking him about it once a year or so, but he never made anything of it, since he couldn't feel anything wrong.

Throughout this time, I also developed what he believed were simply worsening alergies, although nasal sprays and loretadine didn't help much. For the last few years (3 or so), I've also noticed that one nostril or the other is randomly congested.

Almost two years ago, I developed a cough from a slight sensation of somthing right in a line in the center of my chest that doesn't go away. Normally, the cough isn't that bad, and I've learned to suppress it (coughing didn't help it). However, in two situations, it's pretty bad: first thing in the morning when I wake up, I cough for a few minutes, and after any kind of running it's terrible for a good 20-30 minutes. No chest or throat pain, no trouble breathing or swallowing.

About 3-4 months ago, I finally talked to my GP about it (I have been seeing this GP since I turned 18, but since he never heard anything in my chest, I wasn't going to bring it up). He ran a chest x-ray, upper chest CT, and thyroid ultrasound, with all 3 turning up negative for thymoma, general medial masses, or an oversized thyroid. After the negative ultrasound, I haven't heard back from him about where to go from here.

I've been doing quite a bit of research recently to discuss with my GP next time he gives me a call, but I can't seem to find one diagnosis that would fit my symptoms perfectly. The closest I've come is two separate diagnoses: GERD to explain the throat and chest sensation, and an oversized turbinate to explain the nasal involement and the general phlegmy feeling.

Any other ideas?

Hi there, it sounds to mel like it could be comorbid like you're saying but not all diseases have common symptoms. I am guessing that it is either one or the other but not both. I am going to say that it's likelier to be GERD than anything. Can you let us know what yoru doctor says?
