Hi, I've had General Anxiety Disorder and a panic disorder since I was 15 years old. They were always borderline bad enough to medicate me however my family avoided it as I was still a teenager. Now years later I am 19 weeks pregnant and my anxiety level is continuing to increase. I had absolutely no idea that pregnancy actually made these conditions worse or created them altogether. Now I'm worried because as I get farther and farther along it gets worse and worse. After reading through here I've found that Zoloft is safe and so far the most prescribed by doctors to help, however, what are the risks and has anyone taken anything else? I am just now at 5 months having to schedule a visit with a psychiatrist to deal with the heightened anxiety but I would like to go in there with the most information possible so as to be able to ask the right questions for myself and my baby. I know that should the increase continue the risks for my baby are severe but I am more worried that I'll hurt my baby if I truly need to take a medication myself. Information would be great!

With this pregnancy I have so much anxiety I'm afraid to leave the house sometimes (even to go in the backyard). I've had anxiety in college which I got help with but this is worse. Usually something sets it off like a fear of holding up the line at the grocery checkout, or a rude comment someone makes, it could even be the energy people put off towards other people. I can't talk myself out of it. It's debilitating, I can't clean up the house or follow through with commitments. I'm planning on getting counseling after the baby bc right now the doctor keeps telling me it's just hormones and I'm just fine. Much luck to all those in the same boat .
