I learned of this program when it first came out and yes it works. I am back on it now and am losing again. I feel great on it! It has not been hard for me at all. If you feel a little weird, it might be too much protein. I notice that if I don't eat enough veggies, I feel a little icky. But so long as I eat veggies, I am fine. It's not popular right now and there are other diets that are similar, but I like this and will stick to it. I would say the hardest thing is eating out. You're limited to salad w/chicken and even then, it may have sugar or other 'funky' foods in it that you have no control over. For me, though, its gonna be the best choice and I just get back to properly combined meals on the next meal. Hope this helps :)

I have somersized off and on for several years. This diet works for me. I find the diet is not hard once the basics are learned. I notice I start shedding water very quickly. Initially I loose 1 lb. daily for the first week + due to water loss. How I rate the diet as far as pro's and con's. Pro's: It works. It is best and recommended for people exercise daily, but if an person chooses not exercise or cannot exercise due to health reasons, weight-loss will still occur with this diet. Con's: Some days I find it hard to stick with the rules, but frankly all diets are ask us to change our current lifestyle. All diets require something of us. Diet breakdown: Combine whole grain carbs with veggies and non-fat products. Do not consume fats with whole grain carbs (this adds to weight gain.) Examples: Whole grain cereal (cold or hot) with skim milk. Whole grain toast with fat free cottage cheese, sometimes I will put a very small amount of sugar free jam on my toast. Corn tortillas with beans (refried, black, etc.) and veggies and whole grain rice. Wait two to three hours for digestion before eating again. Next, eat fruit alone. Wait one-half hour to eat a carb or carb combo, or one to two hours before eating a protein or protein combo. Eat proteins with veggies and fat. Example: Fish with asparagus and butter, a hamburger with cheese and veggie toppings (just avoid the bun.) During the weight-loss portion of the diet stay away from heavy fruits such as bananas, dates, figs, raisins. A person will want to eat fruits that contain more water such as apples, oranges, melons, mango, grapes, plums, etc. Even though nuts are healthy, during the weight-loss portion of the diet, the diet asks a person to stay away from them. The program calls these types of fruits and nuts "funky." Meaning they fall into a category that is all their own. These foods can contribute to weight gain with this diet. Suzanne provides delicious recipes in her books, she also explains the diet well and how she learned to combine foods in this manner. She even gives ideas for desserts!!! This diet does not limit food consumption as far as portion sizes. An individual is encouraged to eat as much as they want as long as they stay in the guidelines. For myself this diet as very effective and allows for eating without worrying about portion sizes. I know there are times when I have felt frustrated with this diet. This diet does ask you to modify current eating habits, such as eating pizza without the crust. Well, all diets ask us to modify habits. Overall this diet has worked well for me and it is my "go to" diet plan. In fact, I am starting this diet today, 7/16/2016. I have been in school for 3+ years and need to shed excess pounds. I am 42 years old.

I wanted to chime in (belated) on this post as many years ago I successfully lost over 40 lbs on the diet. It was really easy once you get a rhythm with it. Rule 1: Avoid all sugars. This means reading labels and finding products that don't have added sugar. Rule 2: Eat whole grains (brown rice, brown rice pasta, beans, whole grain bread) with no fats and no animal proteins. Potatoes are not whole grains. You can have whole grain, low/no fat cereal with skim milk. I made lentil soups, veggie 3 bean chili and other vegetarian stews. I also made a lot of veggie stir fries and ate them with brown rice. There are some vegetables to avoid (Somersizing asks that you avoid carrots when losing weight. Add them back when in maintenance phase). Rule 3: Eat animal proteins, fats and veggies as a meal without any grains or beans. This is what makes the diet so successful. I traveled and ate out all the time. The solution was simple: order chicken or a steak or pork chop and a salad. Ask for double vegetables and no potatoes. I ate tons of caesar salads, cobb salads, taco salads without croutons or taco shells, etc. Rule 4: Eat fruit (no bananas) on an empty stomach at least 15-20 mins before a grain based meal and an hour before a protein meal. I could eat fruit in the morning and often as an afternoon snack at around 4 or 5 pm before heading home for dinner. Eating the fruit really helped me. Rule 5: don't eat nuts. Anyway, I easily adapted my eating to this diet and I never ever restricted the quantity I ate. If I wanted pasta, I had a large serving of whole grain pasta with a sugar free, fat free sauce. I filled whole wheat pita with fat free hummus and loads of veggies as a sandwich. I ate tons of tuna salad and chicken salad with low/no sugar mayonnaise. I could drink coffee with cream in the morning if I was having a protein breakfast (like an egg, veggie and cheese omelette.) If I wanted to eat toast for breakfast, I had black coffee, coffee with skim milk or tea. The weight fell off of me and I have largely kept this weight off afterwards (when you can add some fats back to your grain meals and eat dessert from time to time). The biggest plus is that after around 3 months on the diet, my energy levels soared. I think I must have finally healed my body from eating sugar and junk. All of the good food and nutrition I was eating and digesting made me feel great. Today, when I want to lose weight now, I still return to this plan and find I quickly stop craving sugar and always feel full and satisfied when I eat. Anyway, some of the early respondents seemed to be saying this did not work for them and I wanted to let folks know that it truly, truly changed my life and was the easiest diet I ever followed. I highly recommend giving it a try.

I love the somersize diet! I have being trying FitBit, Mycalories, Weight Watchers, Myfitnesspal! Nothing I have tried gives me the results like somersizing. Plus she has new books that are a little more nicer and lenient. There are new things that she allows you to eat on level one, like avacados. I remember I could not even eat an avocado! I am going to start it soon. The best way to this diet and any diets are to plan ahead. By your cereals and your fat free milk. Purchase eggs and healthy no sodium nitrate meets for breakfast, lots of fruit and salad. Then you can build and choose a favorite recipe out of her many different books. I used to make her cheesecake and drizzle it with chocolate. I used to have a piece everyday after dinner! A cheesecake would last me 1.5 weeks! Good luck, whatever you do!

This is the best diet. Nothing is left out. All nutrients are included. It can be incorporated into any lifestyle. It's effective. It's healthy. It's low cost. But it takes discipline and dedication to follow.

I've been on this plan for a month now and am down 17lbs! I don't find it difficult & I don't refer to it as a diet because it doesn't feel like one; I eat as much as I want & don't ever feel deprived. And if I cheat (in moderation) I don't have ill effects and still loose weight. Tons of face books support groups help to understand the "rules." Many people seem to find it hard to understand...try reading Ear Cheat and Melt the Fat Away...was the waist read in my opinion! Though it's not popular (I'm in my mid twenties) this has been a god send for me! Good luck!!!

Hope you had good luck with Somersizing. I know it inside out and loved it (years ago) and lost weight. No weight loss for a month, but inches came off. Then weight came off quickly. Great diet, lots of veggies, and the current findings indicate that eating good fats is important for good health. My only problem with it is this: no nuts, no avocado.

When did she add avocado? That was one of my problems with it, otherwise, it's great!!! What about nuts . . . did she add those yet?

This is a wonderful program, I feel wonderful and have lost 57.5 pounds now and I am getting my life back. I love how you don't have to count calories and I have wonderful recipes for this program now. I made my beanless Chili today and served it with Jack, cheddar and green onions. I buy sugar free organic salsa and make my own snappy tom tomato juice that I love with hard boiled eggs for breakfast. I freeze my grapes and eat them for my fruit meal at night,,, I call them grape bon bons.

I started Somersizing on March 25. I have lost 5.5 lbs so far, and that is without cutting my morning caffeine! I feel so much better, and have NO sugar cravings. I am actually getting stuff done after work and on the weekends...before, it was crash time due to no energy. Also reflux problems have subsided. Very easy to follow, once you study up a bit! Second nature now. I make my own dressings from Suzanne's books, so good.

So happy to see people still follow this program. I started Somersizing today and am excited to see the great results everyone has had. I have around 100 pounds to lose so I'm viewing this as a lifestyle change and hoping that I feel better with more energy. I'm liking the fact that I can still have fruit and bread if I choose while following a mostly low carb eating plan. I would love to have an accountability partner for encoragment and motivation if anyone is interested. Thanks, Melissa
