When I was in my early twenties I became really sick after eating a meal from KFC. I thought I had food poisoning from the potatoe salad I had eaten, but the very next time I ate chicken, I had the same symptoms. The symptoms were itchy skin starting with the palms of my hands and spreading followed by severe stomach pain (very sour stomach) and an inability to evacuate. I tried antacid tablets and they made it worse. When I ate the chicken for dinner the symptoms would start the next morning. I found the only way to cure myself was to put my finger down my throat and force vomiting until everything was out of my stomach. I would immediately start feeling better. This would happen whenever I ate chicken, it didn't matter how it was cooked or who cooked it, even things that were cooked with chicken fat or with chicken broth, even the smallest amount. I told doctors about it and they said yes it sounds like an allergy and they said I might out-grow it in time. For twenty two years I avoided eating chicken, not an easy thing to do when half of restaurant menus are chicken and it is used in cooking in ways you would not expect. I had to get in the habit of asking if things contained poultry. Turkey also seems to give me migraine headaches, but I can eat eggs. A doctor finally suggested that I try organic chicken. I was relectant because I didn't want to get sick again, but finally I did, and I did not get sick. After that I went on a chicken binge because I had missed it so much. As long as the package says all natural, no antibiotics, I can eat it. So I still do not eat chicken out or in prepared foods, but if I buy it myself and cook it it's ok. I did find that if I had not eaten chicken for awhile that I might get away with eating it once or twice without symtoms, but it seems to build up in my system and eventually will make me sick. I did recently try the smallest piece of a chicken nugget just to see what it tasted like and during that night I started feeling sick, fortunately, not enough to go full blown. It has been 34 years now and I am obviously not out-growing this allergy and it obviously has to do with how the chickens are raised. I am not saying this would be the case with everyone who has problems eating chicken, but it is something to consider. As a side note, I also have chronic late-stage Lyme Disease. For anyone who does not believe that chronic late-stage Lyme Disease exists, you are dead wrong and long-term antibiotic treatment does help (not cure) and I know that from experience.

Yes, my brother has severe allergies to poultry amonolmany other foods (though not eggs...weird) His throat closes off and he has nearly died many times from accidental ingestion. You would be surprised at how many foods have chicken in them, including pepperoni and hotdogs.

I used to love chicken as a child but i started to have the same reaction when I was around 18 where my throat started to dry up and swell and I could not breath very well. Everyone thought I just didn't want to eat poultry and I only would eat meat. I finally went to a doctor and they found out I had a severe reaction to poultry.

I broke out in a rash/hives one week ago. It was very minor at first. It gradually worsened. It began to spread to other areas and the oldest areas started not to be so red. It itches off and on. I have never had anything like this happen. I had a chicken taco salad the day before this started. I also had chicken the first couple of days. I went 3 days without eating chicken and the redness seemed to improve in the oldest areas of the rash. I ate chicken last night and the old areas were more red today than they had been. I also had chicken for lunch today and now tonight I am itching like crazy.
Could this be a chicken allergy? I have changed soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent.

Not sure if you got a reply. Look at the Eating Right For Your blood type. I'm type b and only looked in to it after years of ibs issues. Type b have a real problem with chicken and the lectin in the chicken muscle. I'm not saying the blood type diet is bible, but when I've tried other things, it's worth a look at. Also can't handle sorbitol, a sugar substitute, it actually acts like a lacative.

Yea, I work at a deli too, and my arms break out in little red bumps when they don't replace the fry gloves with new ones every few weeks. They get gross, from raw chicken and oil and breader contamination... and for some stupid reason the boss has a hard time ordering us new clean ones when he should. I am online trying to find out what the rash is coming from. I wonder if it's the salmonella?

I've been allergic to chicken since the age of two along with other poultry allergies and other allergies. I suggest reading labels on packages and having an epi pen handy just in case. I'm 45 now and its been a struggle.

It really does exist I know this from my own experience I was sick for eight years trying to find answers and questions until I spoke to my aunt who is a Chinese herbalist who gave me a book about blood types and what they can eat...wow it helped me to understand that my blood type was the type that had to avoid chicken after I spent a couple weeks not eating it... finally after 8 years I could actually wake up and feel like I'm not dying from a tequila hangover with an elephant crushing my chest, and feeling like I'm on fire ! I have to admit that I really love chicken. Eating it was a big thing in my life but I don't miss it anymore after I found out that it was the problem to my symptoms, my wonderful husband is greatfull to see that big Improvement in my life, so for sure you definitely give her a chance if she wakes up not feeling sick, then you know where she's coming from if her stomach is bloated and she's sitting down instead of getting up I and too tired too weak to do things because she doesn't feel well then you'll understand. It's very real! communicate with her and help her out give her support like my husband did give it a chance. But good for you for reaching out for help from others it's a good first step.

I have a poultry allergy as well. I cannot eat chicken, turkey, duck. This is what I found:
Chicken allergy accounts for 5% to 6% of all the reported food allergies in the United States.

I used to get a lot of migraines. I went to a naturopath doctor and he told me that B Blood types can have severe reactions to chicken. I stopped the chicken 3 years ago and haven't had another migraine and the constipation that I used to have totally disappeared. Just so you know he also took me off gluten. I can eat gluten occasionally without any issues but one serving of chicken gives me almost immediately issues. Needless to stay I just stay away from it.
