I have problems with my tmj, causes problems to chew, and also have pain. My dentist, and he will additionally sent me to specialist to check me, say I will probably have to undergo arthoplasty. So, I would like to have some more information on arthoplasty.
Thanks in advance!

Arthoplasty is open joint surgery. Arthoplasty is reserved for more serious disorders, where the disc is badly displaced. Arthoplasty is done to repair, reposition or remove the disc. In rare cases total replacement of the disc follows.
Arthoplasty is really not an easy surgery, that is why (due to severity of the condition), arthoplasty may be medically necessary for the following: painful advanced tmj degenerative joint disease or necrosis of the condyle, displaced or torn meniscus, fibrous or bony ankylosis of tmj, documented failure of tmj prosthetic replacement devices, presence of tmj teflon-proplast implants symptomatic or non-symptomatic
