Could it be a pulled muscle or something?
It hurts my middle back to te left side.
kinda worried.

I am a 16 year old female already with high cholestorol, and for the past few months i have been experiencing extreme migranes which does not last very long but recently i have ben experincing the sharp pain along the side of my spine when doing my normal daily activities. I also have asthma and when i have to shorten my breath to stop the pain it enables my asthma to take action and makes it harder to breathe and the pain harder to stop. i have not gone to the doctor but i would like to know should i inform my mother about my health issues

I have similar experiences. When i breath in, it really hurts like a sharp stabbing pain in my back on the right hand side. If i carry on breathing in through the pain, it feels like it pops and then stops hurting. Im only 17 and was wondering if it could be serious?
any help would be great.
thanks x

I am 15 years old and about two days ago I experienced a really odd pain in my pack. When I wake up I don't feel a lot of pain, but as the day goes on my pain is awful. It is right under my right shoulder blade. My pain isn't as bad when I breathe but when I bend and cough I hurts, but the absolute worse pain is when I laugh. I start to cry not because of the laughter but because of the pain. Each day that passes feels like there is a 100 lb. brick dropped on my back and it just adds and adds. I have not been to the doctors yet, but I am going with my mom tomorrow to see what is wrong. My mom has had a slipped disk and other back problems so she knows a lot about back injuries due to her research and various talks with many doctors. She thinks I either have a fractured rib or a huge group of pinched nerves. I am hoping it is nothing big because I am just now off of the disabled list from 5 months due to three fractures in my right knee. I will get more news on it tomorrow and I am praying for just a pulled muscle... We will see!

My intention is not to scare anyone, but my boyfriend was recently having a lot of similar symptoms stated in these responses. He went through a few tests...xrays, ct-scans, etc. After those tests they determined he had cancer but was not sure what kind. The next day he had an ultrasound and biopsy done. The results of that indicated that he had testicular cancer. I would advice any male with symptoms similar to that to ask your doctor if testicular cancer could be a possibility. It's never fun to be diagnosed with any form of cancer, but there has been so much progress in the treatment of testicular cancer and the outcomes are very high!! Like I said, I don't intend to scare anyone, but if your doctor cannot determine what is wrong with you, it's always something to look into! :-)

Check into a nerve study. Spinal nerves and nerves unrelated to the spine can cause it. Also XMRV can cause it as well as any neurological issue. It can be referred pain from somewhere else. The brain interprets all signals from nerves and any malfunction along the pathways can cause it as well. If you think this is a stupid answer then it shows your ignorance because I have already had the tests done and that's where my problem lies for the exact same symptoms.

I've had a simular experience. I've been having severe back pains right under my lefts shoulder blade. I can't twist, bend and when I breath I feel extreme pain. When it started out it just felt like I pulled a mucsle but as the days passed it got worst. so onn the third day I went to the emergency room and saw a doctor. The doctor said she was going to take a x-ray and if she sees nothing wrong she is going to assume it is something called pleurisy. She gave me antibiotics and anti-inflammatory for it, and when I took it the first day it seemed to help and the pain was only minor but when I went to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night the pain was very bad. Also when I researched pleurisy it really didn't say anything about back pain more about chest pain. Did anyone experience this?

It sounds like you might have a rib out in your spine. Most people don't realize that ribs attach to the spine and reach around to your torso. When they are misaligned in your back they can cause extreme pain and restriction of breathing. I'd recommend finding a great upper cervical doctor (one that doesn't twist and crack your spine) and see if they can help. A misaligned rib can easily be felt during an exam and palpitation of your spine by an experienced chiropractor!! Hope that helps.

Mid back pain with breathing, especially inspiration, could be as simple as a vertebral or rib misalignment, for this condition you need a chiropractor. Typically after 3-5 visits most of the pain should be gone or at least reduced, the area may remain sore for a few days due to residual muscle soreness which usually clears up within a week of the last treatment.

i have the pain in the right middle/upper back too i was paranoid it was my right kidney because they're located around there and i don't drink enough water etc but its just one side and more when i breathe in. I have bloated and full guts that make me uncomfortable and tired but i am a bit constipated at the moment and full of wind/gas probably because i was on duromine recently and maybe not enough fibre in my diet. But i am tired from it but stressing more makes me more tired and panicky about my health. I was thinking my liver but maybe im too paranoid. i have shortness of breath but could be from anxious.... ..... ...... =/
