Congratulations on getting that darned thing over with!
I would rest an additional time before doing any physical activity/pilates if I were you. You are still healing. Wait until everything is completely healed and no more zingers ( lol nice one ) before you start up again. You can easily tear something or start blood buildup with strenuous activity.

Hiya, I am on my 12th day following my excision of bartholins gland and small golf ball sized cyst removed. My experience has been and still is very painfull, I thought I was going in for marsupulization but was told it would be best to excise it and remove the gland completely to avoid it coming back. I was not told about the after effects and loss of feeling, I have a lump where the cyst was an am still very swollen. The bruising has gone now and the scar is inside, I have little cuts to the labia and it is kind of hanging, but also swollen and looks like a little tongue poking out! know it sounds funny but it is not very nice, this swelling has also gone down a bit since, so I am thinking it will continue to go down and back to normal.
I am worried about the numb feeling to my right side, I also keep getting stabbing pains in my outer lip, and it makes me jump out of the chair. I have bathed every day with antiseptic lotion and it is getting better, but I really want to find some hope that I will regain the feeling down there. But from what I keep reading I think im going to be like this forever!!!!! I did not have time to investigate the long term affects before I had it done, as I was in on a day case and on of the first on the list!.
I would recommend to anyone going for this procedure that you find out all the information you can before going through with it, I am still in the process of healing but I will post again soon with an update of how it is going.
Hi Again, This is an update. This is now my 16th Day after the op....I am feeling alot better now, it is funny how soon you can feel better. I managed to sit most of the day without the sponge doughnut seat thing. Also, have made love and it felt very strange at first as it was a little bit numb still, the scar area was a little bit sore but not too bad. We then made love again and it felt so much better. I think the numb feeling will go away eventually which is good. I think if it is possible for you, you should try to make love as soon as possible after this procedure because I think leaving it too long will make you stay numb...Im no doctor but that is my theory. Think about it, all the nerves have to go back and mend and this will happen with some sexercise lol. I will update in a few weeks and let you all know how things are. I hope you found this useful and I wish you well with everything :-)
UPDATE: 10 WEEKS SINCE REMOVAL OF BARTHOLINS GLAND AND GOLF BALL SIZE CYST:
Hello again, its been 10 weeks now and I am 100% back to normal, my numbness has gone and the feeling returned to normal, the hanging lip has also gone back into place. I get the odd pinchey feeling when making love but it is not uncomfortable. I feel great and happy that everything has settled down and I am also happy that I will never have to go through this again as the gland was removed. I would urge anyone to have the gland removed, it is a long healing process but it will never come back. Good luck to anyone who is about to go through it and I wish you all the best for your recovery.
thank you so much for these posts you are a Godsend. I had a double bartholin removed yesterday (large and deep either side); I had both gland's removed in quite hurried way, with large loop stitches to close the wounds as, due to other health issues, I began to bleed very heavily and was losing so much blood that entire removal was deemed the better option. My doctor was honest about the amount of swelling, but I was horrified to find the pain getting worse as bruising and swelling increases. I was told to use petroleum jelly on the labial area to keep moist, use a very thin pantyliner folded in half and inserted into labial area to and then a thick sanitary towel as 'padding'. I have no idea how long for of course, so your posts have been most reassuring as my doctor told me that 16-18 weeks would pass before Iwas in anyway back to normal. My scarring will be extensive, but they stopped me bleeding to death so I figure it's a small price to pay.
I've been told that ky jelly is my friend in a few months when I can restart sex; I'm now wondering if they took the ducts as well as the glands?
What does upset me is that I was told if they'd been dealt with when they first came up it would've been easier as they were smaller and not so deep; I pointed out I went to my GP the same day I found them and for the next three weeks he was adamant I was IMAGINING them - the doctor became very quiet and said I should just change GPs - oh the wonders the British NHS! hospitals (in the Midlands/North) are brilliant - GPs suck.
Congrats on getting rid of your bathrolins! That is so scary that you were bleeding to death. Good thing they managed to control it.. its known as the bloodiest gynecological surgery around.
Take it easy and slow, healing process will be better if you do not try to rush it. Sometimes it helps to take arnica orally on top of your pain meds.
For lube post recovery, I would recommend using something water based, not petroleum based.. only because the petroleum can irritate you down there possibly. But, each person is different, try and see how it works for you. The bartholins generate a small amount of lubricant down there, you have additional glands inside your vagina that also lubricate you. The bartholin's glands are just the "starter" glands. So, don't worry about being eternally dry. It might just take you more time to get wet with arousal down there.
However, I understand that I'm liable to end up back in hospital if I *don't* take things easier and be more sensible about things. So, for once, I'm doing what I'm told. The pantyliner is an irritant, I was told to use it when they were discussing marsupilisation with me prior to surgery to stop the granulating tissue either side from sticking together - but I am wondering if it's still necessary now as the cavities appear to have been stitched up?
I'm a having a shower and douching once a day and then three salt baths throughout the rest of the day, every day. I'm hoping the salt baths help the healing process. Sitting is something I'm still trying to get comfortable with - but the doughnut cushion is helping.
Thank you SO MUCH for your advise. I was in a hospital ward of over thirty women, my unit had six alone - and not ONE of them had had the same surgery. It's nice to be able to come here and speak to other people who've been through the same thing, especially when they're ahead of me in recovery; so it's very reassuring to read that I'll be fine eventually. I've decided to leave my blood thinning tablets off a bit longer as I think have thinner blood is probably not helping the bleeding to stop as it takes longer to clot.
Thanks again for your advise. =O)
I think I've finally stopped bleeding (fingers crossed) though from what you're saying perhaps I was over-reacting when I thought that. I was meant to have a marsupilisation but, because I began to bleed so badly they decided complete removal was probably quicker as they had one either side. I think because of that a bit of their panic has spread to me.
I wasn't told how long to do the vaseline pantyliners and the doctor didn't even seem to know about sitz baths so had no idea how long to do those eithers. You've been a big help and I'm genuinely grateful for it as I'd still be floundering around in ignorance without it. =O)
Can you let me know if this is right - when they thought I would have the marsupilisation they said I'd need a pantyliner, coated in vaseline, folded and put inside me to "keep the two wounds apart during granulation. Also a thick sanitary towel as 'padding' and protection." However, I didn't have the marsup now; they removed both cysts (and glands I'm assuming) and just stitched me up. I'm doing what they said but to be really honest the pantyliner seems to be irritating my stitches and making me ooze a little blood. Should I just wear the sanitary towel? I'm really worried to disobey them, but the pain this liner is causing is getting worse. Thank you so much.
love to find out what best options are.
thanks,
Sorry I haven't responded, been travelling!!
I would assume when they mean using vaseline during granulation they mean the healing tissue forming together. When you say "put inside you" do you mean literally.. inside down there?? Because that sounds scary! Where did they cut you open? On the outside or internally?
Pantyliners can be super irritating when I had my gland removed I tried to go commando as much as possible. When you get a wound its good to have it moist for a few days then it needs air to start "scabbing" or fully healing, otherwise you will never heal properlly!
If you're able to stay indoors, away from the public, I'd recommend the towel if it does not irritate you too much too. The sitz baths should really help you, try to do them once in the morning, afternoon, then at night.

Hope you had a good time, I'd love to do that one day!
I figured the same thing and so stopped used it; it was just so painful. I'm still doing salt baths and using the vaseline which has been brilliant. I use the pantyliner generally, but it looks like the discharge is stopping.... I was having three salt baths a day, now I'm down to one and doing really well.
I had a look down below recently, now it looks like all the bruising and swelling has gone pretty much. Iwas shocked at what's had to be done down there. About half of one labial lip has gone and the other has lost about a third.
There are stitches *everywhere* and it's been very roughly sewn on the worst side. but in the surgeon's defence it was a HUGE cyst there apparently and I was also bleeding out on the table, so I think the whole thing was probably being a bit rushed at that time but necessarily so.
It's a real mess, but the pain wasn't as bad as I was expecting, I'm more mobile now and can walk about 300-400 yards without too much pain and overall - after around 5 weeks - I think I'm doing really well. The stitches are disolvable so at least I don't have to go back and have them removed. I think the worst was the first two weeks overall.
As to your question, from what I've found out, I think they had to cut me up internally *and* externally to remove the largest cyst (pretty deeply) and the same on the other side, but just not as invasively. It's pretty dry down there a lot of the time now, but I find the vaseline a big help on that score. YAH VASELINE!! lol!
