Well congrats on getting over the month period! Things can only get better from here.. just remember that your hooha (lol) has changed typography now, things will feel different, look different etc.. Sounds like you had what happened to me. They cut me up from the inside then realized the cyst was deeper and had to go from the outside.. gross when you think about it, its like they are excavating you or something! Doesn't help that its your most private parts too..
Make a mindful watch of the stitches if they are the dissolvable kind.. From some reason the ones I had did not dissolve and they were stuck halfway through me. I guess each body is different.
I'm so glad, things can only get better for you from now on! Try to massage the surgery areas gently, knead the skin. Your nerve cells have been fried most likely during surgery ( it is the bloodiest gynological surgery in history ) so you will need to give your skin therapy persay. Its also good in preventing scar tissue.
I made the mistake once of watching a video online of the surgery right before i had mine and god it was awful!! Can't believe something a part of your own body can reject you and cause so much pain.
I just wanted to thank you so much for all your kind advice and support over the last few weeks; and to everyone else whose also posted support and advice for me too - it's really helped me stay positive and manage my recovery.
I still have some of the stitches showing; they seem to be a doubled instead of a single thread like the other stitches that dissolved quickly but, thanks to your advice, I'll keep a better eye on them.
I have to rest more; I was feeling much better last week and so took my mother in law shopping, carried it all in for her, came home and did some housework and then started bleeding........it was a scary evening, but by lunchtime Friday it had stopped but it was certainly a wake up call. I thought everything had healed enough for me to do the usual stuff, but obviously not. I duly stopped and did more sitting down - and I *can* SIT DOWN!! yah!! I never thought I'd miss it so much. rofl!
Thanks for the name for 'down below' as I've been calling it - I reckon hooha is much more fun. :O)
I'll take your advice and start with (as I will call it evermore) the hooha physiotherapy. I am quite numb down there so I'm sure it will help with that too.
I hadn't got a clue what to expect to be done, apart from the odd anatomical drawings of the surgery I found on google; but they were extremely basic. Mind you, I'm kind of grateful because I think I'd have flipped if I'd known how bad it was going to be; I knew it would be painful, but I wasn't expecting the complications that took place - especially because my GP was telling me there was nothing wrong and I was an hysterical woman. I was told at the hospital if I hadn't had to wait so long the cysts wouldn't have been so large and I should change my GP (which I'm currently in the process of doing).
I think our bodies can be our worst enemies as well as our best friends and I speak from experience - I reckon mine hates me. lol.

Hiya, I am on my 12th day following my excision of bartholins gland and small golf ball sized cyst removed. My experience has been and still is very painfull, I thought I was going in for marsupulization but was told it would be best to excise it and remove the gland completely to avoid it coming back. I was not told about the after effects and loss of feeling, I have a lump where the cyst was an am still very swollen. The bruising has gone now and the scar is inside, I have little cuts to the labia and it is kind of hanging, but also swollen and looks like a little tongue poking out! know it sounds funny but it is not very nice, this swelling has also gone down a bit since, so I am thinking it will continue to go down and back to normal.
I am worried about the numb feeling to my right side, I also keep getting stabbing pains in my outer lip, and it makes me jump out of the chair. I have bathed every day with antiseptic lotion and it is getting better, but I really want to find some hope that I will regain the feeling down there. But from what I keep reading I think im going to be like this forever!!!!! I did not have time to investigate the long term affects before I had it done, as I was in on a day case and on of the first on the list!.
I would recommend to anyone going for this procedure that you find out all the information you can before going through with it, I am still in the process of healing but I will post again soon with an update of how it is going.
Hi Again, This is an update. This is now my 16th Day after the op....I am feeling alot better now, it is funny how soon you can feel better. I managed to sit most of the day without the sponge doughnut seat thing. Also, have made love and it felt very strange at first as it was a little bit numb still, the scar area was a little bit sore but not too bad. We then made love again and it felt so much better. I think the numb feeling will go away eventually which is good. I think if it is possible for you, you should try to make love as soon as possible after this procedure because I think leaving it too long will make you stay numb...Im no doctor but that is my theory. Think about it, all the nerves have to go back and mend and this will happen with some sexercise lol. I will update in a few weeks and let you all know how things are. I hope you found this useful and I wish you well with everything :-)
UPDATE: 10 WEEKS SINCE REMOVAL OF BARTHOLINS GLAND AND GOLF BALL SIZE CYST:
Hello again, its been 10 weeks now and I am 100% back to normal, my numbness has gone and the feeling returned to normal, the hanging lip has also gone back into place. I get the odd pinchey feeling when making love but it is not uncomfortable. I feel great and happy that everything has settled down and I am also happy that I will never have to go through this again as the gland was removed. I would urge anyone to have the gland removed, it is a long healing process but it will never come back. Good luck to anyone who is about to go through it and I wish you all the best for your recovery.
Thank you for the update. I had my surgery 5 dys ago and my follow with dr. is in 3 days. I am not even sure what surgery I had was it marsupial or total removal. I am in severe pain. I cannot walk comfortably and not sit at all. I am completely miserable and did not know I would be in this position. The positive feeda=back up top helped me find hope. 10 weeks sounds like a forever so I have 9 to go. Wish me well.
When you say excision do you mean they just 'burst the bubble' or actually removed the gland?
It sounds like your gland is still there, or at least traces of it, and thats why its giving you problems. Mine would swell up when I would get aroused too.
The doctor said that she took out the whole cyst, stitched me up but she left an opening for the fluids to flow out. I dont think she removed the gland. Your swell up too? I thought i'm the only one who experience this! Can you have sex or does it hurt too much? This really affects how i see myself. I feel less of a woman because of this problem and i dont know what to do. I feel like it will swell up everytime i feel aroused so how am i gonna have sex?
I think your best answer is what most of us have gone through and had the entire gland removed. Its a tough surgery but trust me, you will be soooo much better off in the long run, and you can have sex normally after you heal! Since you're young its better to get rid of this now when you are single too.. its tough dealing with this c**p when you are dating someone who doesnt understand!
Ohh my!! Another surgery? The excision already took me about a month to get back on track! The doctor said it could be bartholinitis then gave me meds for pain and swelling. It does go away after a day or two..is that considered a cyst already?
Anytime you feel it starting to swell up its turning into a cyst.. it all depends on your body and how fast it can absorb the cystic fluid for it to go away. . I really recommend getting the real removal surgery done to prevent this from happening to you ever again and make your sex life normal. I used to have this issue when I was about to engage in intercourse. Of course there are some tradeoffs you have to think about in exchange for removing that ball of pain in you, there will be some occasional discomfort and you might not look the same as before, but still.. its really worth it.
Can you explain the tradeoffs? I want to keep my options open in this cause i think the excision has been traumatic enough and i don't think i can undergo another surgery this soon. You have been really helpful. Thank you so much!
Last Friday i had my gland and cyst removed after suffering with a bgc that would not quit for about 4 months. Pain is starting to get better, but i'm still in bed not able to sit upright or walk for too long. 4 days after my surgery i started my period and was bleeding normally. I'm usually not a heavy bleeder after the first two days so i was suprised when i noitced i was still bleeding heavily on day 3 and 4 of my period. I finally got the currage to look down there and saw what looks like a blood clot oosing with blood and puss. The blood clot is outside of my Labia and no where near the incision area - but is where i used to be able to feel my cyst before. Should i be woried? has anyone expierenced this before? it's Late on Friday and wont hear from my Dr. till Monday so i was hoping to get some answers here.
Thanks all!
Hi Shee,
Its good to know your options, I totally agree.
Here is what it would be like if you did not get surgery and continually had cysts: If the cyst has been reoccurant once or twice, it will come back again. It will continue to formulate scar tissue in the area effected and every single time you must have it marsupialized/popped. When doing this, the doctor will create a drainage hole that will heal up then formulate a cyst again with time. Then, it is a rinse, and repeat type of process. Sometimes the cysts just go away, but if its happened more than twice already with you, that means there is something off down there causing these problems. It could be anything, biological, coincidence, medications you're taking, stress, trauma.. The list is endless. To not go with removal surgery you are banking on having yourself poked and prodded everytime. Trust me, the cysts only get worse and bigger and bigger.
To Go with a bartholin gland removal surgery: You will be put under for this. The whole area will be extremely numb and painful. You cannot do anything for about 1-2 weeks and wear a pad constantly. You will have to do sitz baths 2-4 times a day depending on how bad your cysts were. Overtime, the pain will go away, and you lose nerve receptors in the surgery area making the area numb or slightly painful to the touch - it depends on how the doctor handles your nerves during surgery.
Normally the incision is in the inside of your vagina walls to prevent any aesthetic scars. If your cyst is very deep, or has been really large, they will probably incise from the inside, and outside too. The purpose of the surgery is to get rid of all the scar tissue that has built up from the cyst and terminate the gland that causes the problems altogether. You will be very sensitive in that area for about 3 weeks then start returning to normal. I have been 3 years post op and I never have any more problems other than slight discomfort during sex. The area feels "caved" in and a hole was created there to give off discharge which I assume closed up a long time ago. I can refer anyone to really good doctor in NYC who preformed his surgery on me. He also gave me his cell phone to call him in case anything happened and would always answer his phone.
VCR26,
What type of blood are you discharging? Is it bright red, or darker, or filled with puss? Bleeding is normal as I bled for about 2 weeks straight. However, if it is really bright red blood, and you are experiencing discomfort, I would get in contact witth the doctor or hospital that preformed on you and ask for another opinion. Your blood could not be clotting up properlly.
