Hi, I have been having strong headaches for some time. When I went to see my doctor he did some tests and diagnosed me with high blood pressure. He also told me that my situation is not that serious and that drugs are not necessary at this point. I was advised to change my diet and to do more exercises. This attitude didn't encourage me a lot and I am worried. Could you tell me what the best antihypertensive therapy is? Should I start taking some medicines?
Hi, high blood pressure is a serious illness that shouldn't be taken lightly. However you shouldn't doubt your doctor, because he probably has more information about your condition than you have told me. If he says that your condition is not serious that you would need medications than he probably knows what he is talking about. There are many drugs that are used to treat hypertension. There is no one universal best antihypertensive therapy. I would say that each person who suffers from hypertension is taking the therapy that is best for him. Because there are many drugs there are numerous combinations that could give satisfying results. Under no circumstances should you take antihypertensive drugs on your own. It might do you more damage than benefits.
